RIP Ayrton and Roland, both sad losses for a sport that lost too many.

Really was a watershed moment in the sport. It's somewhat remarkable that no driver has lost their lives since that weekend. That's testament to the work of the FIA, the drivers and the teams of the last 20 years who all worked to make the sport as safe as it is today.

      RIP Senna and Ratzenberger.

Senna did some very nice pieces on Senna and Ratzenberger during the week.
I highly recommend them for anyone who is looking for an insight.

Certainly brought some memories and emotions flooding back.

I thought it was ok. Quite happy to find refuge in this sport once more after an alienating 2013 especially with domestic football over for the summer. Strategy wise the GP was quite interesting. Pleased for Lewis and Nico as always. Can they win every race this year?

      Oops.

This season is not the first time we have seen dominant cars.

It's looking more 1988 McLaren than Ferrari or Red Bull,
      and I'm fine with that.

Behind the Mercs, Red Bull have established themselves as second best
and Ferrari look incapable of producing a good chassis or engine.

Bottas looking very impressive in the Williams.

Monaco will be a leveller, given that horsepower will not be king.
I full expect Red Bull to take the fight to Mercedes.

      4 way battle?
      Yes please.

Sector three in Barcelona is cited as a good indication of how cars will run in Monaco. I'd be interested to see the times from all drivers in that sector to see where they stand but I suspect the Mercedes were the mightiest through there as well. I'm actually delighted that we're seeing a potentially great two horse race between two team mates who are two very different drivers. It definitely has similarities to Senna v Prost.

Williams, Mclaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes - the sport tends to have runs of dominant teams as their technological edges last through the season - all that matters is how long they stay on top.

Don't see the Senna/Prost comparisons myself - I don't see Rosberg in the same class as Hamilton. There was a lot of talk about Hamilton having protections as number one driver written into his contract before he joined Mercedes - I don't think that's true but the alternative is even more scary for Rosberg - that hamilton made the move confident that he would tonk Nico all over the place. This is the first time in a long time that a driver with Hamilton's talent has been in the best car. He will walk the championship this season.

I hope Vettel can sort out his style to adapt his driving quickly - he is immensely talented but doesn't have Hamilton's attacking flair - he "manages" the car better - the Senna / Prost comparison is more apt if you are talking about those two.

Senna - Prost was most apt when it was Hamilton V Alonso.
Unfortunately it went sour even quicker.

You reckon Alonso could replace Button at Maclaren mate?  Or is he fully wedded to Ferrari now?

I'm not sure who else could afford him.
Can't see him going to McLaren unless they sort themselves out.
No doubt he regrets not going to Red Bull when he had the chance.

Haha yeah that was a bad career move for him but I reckon he'd have had the same issues with Vettel as he had with Lewis.  Alonso wants and needs to be number 1 driver.

His biggest problem is Ferrari have always been reactionary.
They never seem to be the ones finding the little thing that gives them an advantage.

Their reliability won them titles when McLaren were their main competitors,
but now Mercedes and Red Bull have had speed and reliability Ferrari need to up their game.

I concur. The hardcore fans seem happy enough to pick apart the tactical intricacies and applaud the Mercs on a job well done but as a casual observer, F**k me it was boring!
Not particularly enjoying the season as a whole yet.

Like you say mate, they've never been the innovators, they're the Real Madrid of F1 and as such Alonso is the Ronaldo of Ferrari, hence my utter dislike of him  ;D

      Spot on.
They are the Real Madrid of Formula 1.

Always makes me laugh when people try to say Ferrari are the Manchester United of Formula 1.
      That was/is McLaren.

I grew up with Alboreto/Ferrari posters on my wall as a kid.
I love the old romance of Ferrari. Not so much the politics.

Don't like Ferrari mate.  Not the F1 team, their cars or drivers, don't like their road cars either.
