As a team, Red Bull suited him. Ferrari was a culture shock which he never adjusted to. Politically, mentally, emotionally, Ferrari is in a different league to Red Bull, even Mercedes. He put up with it when he was the No. 1 driver and Raikkonen never challenged him. Compared to Leclerc, he's slow, error strewn, and yesterdays man. So he's off.

What is a surprise is who his replacement is. I expected them to go after Verstappen and make him an offer too good to turn down. Failing that, they could have promoted Mick Schumacher from their own books, cost them nothing, and generated a heap of PR. Instead, they've gone for a slow coach that has done nothing in his career. Sainz is useful for the Constructors Championship, not a serious contender to puncture the Hamilton wheel.

It's Leclerc, and Binotto's team now.
      Vettel was Arrivabene's main man.
Sainz will be number two, and he'll do a good job for them.
Having two number one's didn't work, it never has in the modern era.
      Monza probably sealed Vettel's fate.

Sainz will do a good job, as will Bottas. But  competing for and winning a World Championship is a step up from just doing a good job. Especially against someone with 6 titles alone.

I notice that not one driver has said anything about not racing when it resumes, because of fear of the virus. Probably because most of them are aware that every time they go out on track, theres a risk they may not make it back to the garage.

The Williams Formula 1 team and wider company group are up for sale after posting a £13m loss last year.

The momentous decision marks a major change in direction for a company whose founder Sir Frank Williams had previously always insisted on retaining control.

Deputy team principal Claire Williams said: "Frank has always ensured he puts the team, business and our people first, and that's what we're doing now."

She said the aim was to secure the team's future through internal investment.

Sir Frank, 78, is no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the team.

Claire Williams said: "Frank is always aware of and up to speed with every decision the board takes and is supportive.

"He wants to ensure the future success of his team and understands and agrees this is the right time to seek inward investment to achieve that."

The company said in a statement that they were considering "various strategic options… including but not limited to raising new capital for the business, a divestment of a minority stake in Williams Grand Prix Holdings, or a divestment of a majority stake in WGPH including a potential sale of the whole company".

It said the company was "not in receipt of any approaches at the time of this announcement" but said it was "in preliminary discussions with a small number of parties regarding a potential investment".

Claire Williams said in a conference call that the aim was to complete the process "within the next three to four months, but we are fully funded throughout the remainder of this year".

Asked if the company was at risk if the team could not be sold, Claire Williams said: "I have every confidence we will find the investment we need."

Managing director Mike O'Driscoll said there were "no prescribed outcomes" and that a "whole sale is just one option".

The move comes in the wake of Williams finishing last in the constructors' championship for the second year in succession in 2019, leading to a significant drop in income.

She said she believed the introduction of a budget cap from 2021 and new regulations aimed at levelling the field from 2022 made the team an attractive opportunity.

She said she was "very confident about this team's future and our ability to succeed in our sport again because the environment in which we can compete is changing".

She said there was "no one key factor" in the decision to put the company up for sale but the coronavirus crisis was a contributor.

F1 is facing a significant loss of income as a result of the lack of racing this year, with all major revenue streams under threat.

The sport is aiming to start a curtailed season in Austria at the beginning of July.

Williams also announced that they had "terminated its sponsorship arrangements with Rokit, effective immediately".

Williams is one of the most successful teams in F1 history, and dominated large swathes of the 1980s and 1990s, winning multiple championships with the likes of Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Damon Hill.

But its competitiveness has declined this century. Williams went through a brief renaissance from 2014-17, when it finished third twice and then fifth twice, but has fallen to the back in the last two years.

Aston Martin has announced 500 job cuts, to "right-size the organisational structure and bring the cost base into line with reduced sports car production levels, consistent with restoring profitability," it said in a statement.

Last month, the 107-year-old company reported a deep first-quarter loss after sales dropped by almost a third due to the impact of the pandemic.

The cuts come a week after Aston Martin confirmed that Tobias Moers, boss of Mercedes-AMG, would become chief executive on 1 August, replacing Andy Palmer.

Formula 1 is setting up a foundation to fund apprenticeships and scholarships to increase diversity in the sport.

The foundation has a start-up fund of $1m (£804,000), which has been provided personally by F1 chairman and chief executive Chase Carey.

The fund will grow with contributions from others, both within and outside the sport.

F1 and world governing body the FIA are to instigate a plan to promote drivers from diverse backgrounds.

This will, according to a statement, "identify and systematically eliminate barriers to entry from grass roots karting to Formula 1".

F1 launches equality and diversity taskforce
World champion Lewis Hamilton is so far the only driver of Afro-Caribbean descent to make it into F1.

The 35-year-old has in recent weeks been outspoken on the subject of race and diversity, in the wake of the global Black Lives Matter protests that followed the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis last month.

Carey said: "We fully recognise that Formula 1 needs to be more inclusive and diverse.

"While we set out our strategy last year to improve the position of our sport, we need, and want, to do more.

"That is why we will establish a task force to listen and ensure the right initiatives are identified to increase diversity in Formula 1.

"We want to ensure we give people from all backgrounds the best chances to work in Formula 1 regardless of their gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or physical abilities.

"We are therefore also taking the initial step of creating a foundation to support key educational and employment opportunities across Formula 1 that will give under-represented talent the chance to work in this incredible sport and build an exciting career."

      Welcomed.
No doubt also generate more interest from the BAME groups globally which can't be bad for the sport's appeal.

I think team orders ( of sorts ) cost Hammy a win this weekend. He takes the p!ss out of Bottas every time considering their in the same car. at the same time why wasn't team orders brought into place after his 5 second penalty for the extra points to let Hammy passed in the last couple of laps.

Given the penalty I'm surprised Mercedes didn't call for Bottas to let Hamilton through.
That said, if I was Bottas, I wouldn't be in a hurry to let him through even if they called it.

Made for a great finish though. Lando on fire at the moment.
