Dull game in truth until Kuyt and co came on and turned it into a very good showing

Man of the Match - Kuyt, 3 assists and generally machine like

Great to see Nemeth bag a couple too!

Not getting too carried away as it was a pre-season game against poor opposition, but there was plenty of positives to take from the game, Benayoun looks to have picked up where he left of last season, Kuyt only 1 word to describe his performance "immense" and he will get my vote in Liverpool FC big brother for that performance. Nando looks sharp and is only 1 or 2 games from getting his cutting edge, Nemeth and Pacheo showed there true quality on the field surrounded by a better class of player, Carra and Agger looked as solid as ever, Our Defence shackled them and our midfield dominated them, optimistic for the next game , can't wait ....

The thing I'm taking away from this game is that we showed that we can now break teams down who put 11 men behind the ball.

      Good second half performance.

Dirk Kuyt looked brilliant, Nemeth - despite not playing brilliantly scored two great goals.  Alonso put in an appearance and no injuries.

Voronin got lucky - thought he was poor.

      Lucas also impressed.

Kuyt was amazing. I think Benayoun was a bit off, not too bad though. Agger went down wayyy too easily once and Plessis got done too easily on the left late on, but otherwise no problems really.

      REDS ON SONG AGAINST SINGAPORE
      Internet Report 26 July 2009
      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/mediawatch/drilldown/MW14871090726-1442.htm
Liverpool secured their first victory of pre-season thanks to a 5-0 thrashing of Singapore at the National Stadium, with Xabi Alonso appearing as a second-half substitute, reports Eurosport.

Rafa Benitez will have been pleased to secure a convincing victory with Andrei Voronin opening the scoring in first-half injury time.

Liverpool completely dominated after the break though and after Albert Riera added the second goal, Dirk Kuyt took centre stage when selflessly claiming assists for three goals, teeing up Krisztian Nemeth twice and Fernando Torres once.

One of the biggest cheers of the night was reserved for Alonso though as he appeared as a substitute with 12 minutes remaining.

Despite the presence of a huge number of Reds supporters, and a warm reception prior to kick-off that saw 'You'll Never Walk Alone' played to an appreciative audience, any pretence of a friendly encounter was quickly abandoned when Aleksandar Duric flattened Mascherano with an unnecessary shoulder-barge.

Chances were few and far between in a largely uneventful first half though, with Ryan Babel testing Hassan Sunny in the Singapore goal when connecting with David Ngog's cross after only seven minutes.

The two forwards were dovetailing neatly at times although Liverpool were failing to turn their superior possession into any clear openings as they tended to over-elaborate.

That changed in first-half injury time when Voronin took aim from just outside the box and saw his shot take a deflection to fly past the off-balance Sunny and into the net.

Riera was one of three players introduced at half-time by Benitez and the winger required just five minutes to make an impact on the game as he controlled a Mascherano pass with his chest and finished with ease.

The changes kept on coming and substitutes Kuyt and Nemeth combined to put Liverpool 3-0 in front after 73 minutes. The Dutchman took advantage of some sloppy play from the hosts to charge down the right and tee up his young teammate for an easy finish.

Kuyt was the creator once more after 80 minutes as he found space down the right wing and picked out Torres to leave the Spaniard with a routine finish from five-yards out.

Just three minutes later, and following a clever piece of work from Dani Pacheco, Kuyt claimed his third assist when finding Nemeth, the striker scoring with a fine header from ten yards out.

It was a fine cameo performance from the Dutch forward as he helped orchestrate a dominant victory for Benitez's Reds.

      Singapore success for Reds
Liverpool up and running after comfortable victory on Far East tour
      http://www.skysports.com/football/match_report/0,19764,11065_3151988,00.html
Liverpool secured their first pre-season victory of the summer with a comfortable 5-0 rout of Singapore.

Hungarian youngster Krisztian Nemeth bagged a brace for the Reds, while Andriy Voronin, Albert Riera and Fernando Torres were also among the goals.

With Rafael Benitez including a number of unfamiliar faces, including goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, defenders Mikel Dominguez and Philipp Degen and forward David Ngog in his starting line-up, the Reds struggled to assert themselves in the first half against a defensively-minded Singapore side.

Ryan Babel rose above the Singapore defence to put a header straight at goalkeeper Hassan Sunny after seven minutes but apart from that, there was little to entertain the crowd in the first half as the Premier League side were restricted to shots from distance.

There were some moments of concern for the Reds as Javier Mascherano twice went to ground after heavy challenges by Mustafic Fahrudin and Noh Alam Shah and the hosts nearly took a shock lead in the 22nd minute when Shi Jiayi's through pass released Shahril Ishak whose weak shot was easily saved by Cavalieri.

But in stoppage time at the end of the half, Liverpool's opening goal arrived from out of the blue as Voronin got past the challenge of Fahrudin and, with the Singapore defence backing off, fired in an innocuous low shot that crept past a late-diving Hassan.

      Improved
Buoyed by the unexpected goal, Liverpool were much improved after the break and extended their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Mascherano floated in a fine cross from the right for Riera, who chested the ball down at the far post before firing a low shot past Hassan.

The fans were clamouring for an appearance by Torres and got their wish just after the hour when he was brought on with Dirk Kuyt in place of Yossi Benayoun and Ngog.

It was the Dutchman that would make the bigger impression, though, setting up the last three goals, beginning in the 73rd minute when he crossed from the right for 20-year-old Nemeth to slide the ball past Hassan to make it 3-0.

Alonso came on in the 77th minute for Daniel Agger and just three minutes later started the move that ended with Kuyt crossing for an unmarked Torres to apply the finishing touch from point-blank range for his first pre-season goal.

And with seven minutes left, another Kuyt cross found Nemeth, who headed home his second of the game.

Kuyt was immense when he came on. Nemeth bagged two, both of which were good finishes. Lucas had a good game and again Pacheco look quite bright. Very calm on the ball which is fantastic to see in a young lad playing with the first team.

      Can't wait for Espanyol now.

To be fair, the scoreline is quite expected. The players in Singapore lacks endurance as I have always known (local lad). The 2nd half scoreline proved it, they could not press as hard as they had in the first. In a way Im impressed with the Reds because in this high temp and humidity, they did well, and more energetic then the local players. This just shows how much trainings the staffs and players had to do to keep themselves fit.

And lastly hope Alonso, Mascherano stays.
Even saw a spectator holding 'Xabi Stay'.

I think this place may go into melt-down when Redsonfire gets back online. May need his own Board for all the Pictures.

All in all good game, 2nd half made up for a poor 1st half. Opinion on Voronin may be waining, but either that his what Rafa wants him to do, he can not understand Rafa, and the Bundesliga is piss easy.

Good to see us getting our pre-season finally going, especially Nemeth bagging a few. Should do wonders for his confidence.
Kuyt was superb, Babel was decent, Defence and goalkeepers didn't have anything to do, really.

Definitely a difference between the players from the the first half and second half. We were a lot more dangerous and thoughtful in the second half.

Kuyt, unsurprisingly looking like he could run all day long. Very inspiring performance from the man.

Nemeth popping up in the right places to put the ball in the net. A quality that he's displayed countless times for the reserves.

      Superb goal by Riera!

And didn't we look boss in that kit?

Hats off to our fans over there. Was enjoying the songs.

1st half we looked a bit slow although Ngog and Benayoun showed a few flashes of quality. Voronin's goal, OK it was a deflection but he did well to make the space for himself and had the confidence to have a dig.

2nd half looked a lot better. Pacheco looked quality, very calm on the ball. Torres was getting in the area and although missed a few, he was still there for the next. Nemeth was fantastic, took both goals well. Could easily of panicked with both but didn't, the mark of a very good centre forward. And Kuyt? Well everything he touched seemed to end up in a chance, a very good half hour of so from our stand in skipper. Riera's goal was his only highlight, didn't see much else of him but what a goal it was. Fantastic control and shot.

Middle of the park I thought we missed something throughout the match. Degen was non existant. Agger played well at left back as did Insua.

All in all an easy performance in difficult conditions. Fantastic to see the boys back to winning ways an all of a sudden it's not "only pre-season" ;)

Was really pleased that I saw a great match. Definitely the first half was a little poor, but once Voronin scored then I thought there would be only one outcome.

Insua and Riera made a lot of difference when they came on on that left flank. Kuyt was tireless, and I thought that Nemeth did particularly well in both goals.

Was fantastic because You'll Never Walk Alone was played 3 times. The Kop stand wasn't as good as I thought, most of the cheering came from the Lower Grandstand section. Some arseholes behind me keep calling for people to sit down, talking in their dialects and scolding all sorts of vulgarities, what kind of fans are these ? :(

Think some of you saw the giant banner that the fan club made, thumbs up to them. And also this 40 metre long You'll Never Walk Alone banner in front, it was boss. I thought I got there early at 4pm, I turned out to be sitting 10 rows from the top :( but still!

It was a great experience, I'm just sad that the lads are at the airport now going to fly back to Liverpool. Enjoyed this, it was memorable, got the pleasure to meet Mascherano and Arbeloa, saw the lads first hand. Was really pleased that this was a good game as well.

Roll on the season we would walk it! ;)

Well done lads! Think the difference today was the balance, i.e. more senior squad players being involved. Think they brought out that little bit extra from the likes of Pacheco and Nemeth.Cracking header by Nemeth. Kuyt was absolutely F***ing awesome! Very encouraging performance from the lads. I feel we are starting to gel now and i think we are on the brink of something special this season.

Great to see Xabi and Masch back together, let's hope we can keep hold of them. Great finish from Riera too.

Didn't see the match as I've been in bed nursing a hangover but watched the highlights and I'm absolutely made up to see Nemeth bag a couple of goals. He went a bit cold last year due to injuries but I'd love to see him pick up again and push for the first team. I reckon he has a decent chance seeing as Torres is our only good striker. Looking at the highlights and the comments on here it seems Dirk had a belter. He's much more than a workhorse

      Is he better than Voronin?

They had it up since Friday, yes it was superb. There are about 40 banners scattered and hung around the stadium, did anyone seen mine in there? The fan club hung all submitted banners up at the stadium, just a pity I didn't win. But it's okay. It's already pleasing enough I've got the very pleasure of meeting the players!

The horns in all honesty was irriating. Some fans didnt know the lyrics and weren't singing at all. Should have got to the Lower Grandstand, it was all the die-hards over there. All the cheering going on there. But still its a boss match, saw a goal feast and something I wouldn't forget!

Ad came from Kuala Lumpur, he took a flight down this morning to catch the game. He was on the Grandstand.

govinox came a couple of days ago. He's on the Kop stand.

There were a few spoilers today who wanted to spoil the party but they were booed off.

While queuing up for entry to the stadium this guy was wearing a manc Owen 7 shirt. He got a lot of abuse and when he came into the stadium, the whole Kop was shouting 'Man U sucks!' for about 5 minutes or so. Lots of boos as well.

I'm sure that guy enjoyed himself. He got abused! ;D

Kuyt was fantastic when he came on and simply dictated play and helped us to win very comfortably in the end. Nemeth was very impressive as was Dani Pacheco when he came on. Awesome to see El Nino scoring again and Riera's goal was a peach. Great result.. great atmosphere. Thanks for a great game Singapore. The support we had out there was maginificent.

I was there!! It was a really great match and the atmosphere was quite ok.But,I was expecting more in the Kop stand.I was part of a little group that tried to get some songs going but the rest just would follow!! Infact as redsonfire said there were people complaining and shouting at us to sit down!!  >:( But it was great fun anyway!!The 2nd Nemeth goal was pure insitinct and that lad is progressing quite well, I might even suggest that he is better than Voronin!

A night that certainly reds in this region of the world would forget! Now for that 19...

Imo, the 2 goals scored by Nmeth was when the Singapore defenders were tired, and Kuyt + others who went forward was playing football around the Singapore penalty area, which made the keeper very upset when goal was scored or almost. They were probably very concerned with F Torres lurking too. Despite being good goals scored by Nemeth, we have to see more of him hopefully. Even Ngog, Voronin was playing fine. That new young defender from Bilbao ? Domingeuz is he? looks hardworking, but untested yet, like Nemeth and Pacheco need to see more of them. For Deggen at RB, he seldom go forward in first half. Lazy or what i dunno, still prefer Arbeloa+Johnson in that position over him. After 5th goal, I have a feeling they tone down a bit to give the host some face probably. Not like Manure last time at 9-1.

The players and Rafa chalked up a bill of about S$28,000 in an adidas concept store in Vivocity. The players also engaged in light hearted banter, targetting pranks at Xabi Alonso, constantly presenting Real shirts to Alonso!

Yes perfectly serious on it. I think they were just havin' a couple of jokes to piss Alonso off, and probably to get him to tell them whether he wants to move or not.

Written in the local paper. So yes its true. But I think its just light hearted banter, the lads havin' a bit of fun here and there thats all. Nothing to read too much into.
