Ferguson claims he hasn’t ever blasted Benitez except when the Spaniard made ‘offensive gestures’ to Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce.

“I have never said a word about him,” said Ferguson.

“The only time I responded was when he made that gesture with Sam Allardyce.

“There was no doubt he was doing that. Liverpool were too quick to come out and respond that he was signalling they should take a free-kick a different way.

“That was bollocks. Absolute bollocks.”

“Everton are a big club, not a small one which Benitez arrogantly said,” said Ferguson last year however, the Scottish manager has now branded rivals Manchester City as a “a small club with a small mentality”.

“It’s City isn’t it? They are a small club with a small mentality,” he said.

“All they can talk about is Manchester United. They can’t get away from it.

“They think taking Tevez away from Manchester United is a triumph. It is poor stuff.”
