Reds And Real Agree Arbeloa Fee
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Real Madrid to sell right-back Alvaro Arbeloa to the Spanish club.

The move is subject to a medical and worth about £3.5m to the Reds who signed the 26-year-old for £2.6m from Deportivo la Coruna in January 2007.

Spain international Arbeloa had one year left on his Liverpool deal and could have left for free next summer.

Defender Glen Johnson's arrival at Anfield this summer paved the way for boss Rafael Benitez to sell Arbeloa.

Switzerland international Philipp Degen is also fit again after rib and lung injuries and another option for Benitez at right-back, while Jamie Carragher can also play in that position.

Arbeloa scored two goals in 99 games for Liverpool and speculation had suggested he could join Real Madrid in a joint deal seeing Xabi Alonso also leaving the Merseysiders.

I'm slightly dissapointed, always liked him and he did well for us last season, so he could only improve but ah well what can you do. Anyway, now we've got Johnson so hopefully it will be all good.

      £800,000 profit on him.

99 games eh? Didn't deserve to get to 3 figures.

Thought he did a good job but obviously Carra is top dog at Anfield. When he bollocks you on the pitch it's clear you're on your way.

I'm sure he will have a cracking time on the Madrid bench - suppose it's warmer than the Liverpool bench.

He'll be second to Ramos in the pecking order. It looks like Madrid are fond of Marcelo too - I reckon they're more likely to give him chances than Arbeloa at left back. Fair doos though.

I suppose the arrival of Johnson marked his depature - not too bothered, he's a better player.

£3.4m is a joke quite frankly. The minimum I would've accepted is £6-7m.

My God, i thought everyone had this implanted in their head by now:

It was the last year of his contract - he could have left for free next season and to demand anything over 5m is ridiculous.

3.4m quid in the bank and an ungrateful man on his way out. Dont let the door hit you, Alvaro.

Thanks for what you have done for us, Arby. I always rated you highly.

But no thanks for showing no respect to the club that saved your career and turned you from an unknown quantity to a fully fledged international for the best footballing nation in the world.

His knee slides could do with a little work, though.

He could take some tips from Torres on that, I guess. ;)

Good luck Alvaro, the autograph that I've got from you was probably one of the last autographs that he would have given to a Liverpool fan in a Liverpool shirt.

Good luck there, Adios Alvaro, just remember your roots and remember who turned you into the player you are today.

Our unsung hero after Finnan, one of the most consistent players and his wishes have been fulfilled. Thought that he could have gotten more money out of him but we had to get rid of him asap, lest his contract expires.

      YNWA Arby. Good luck there.

Torres' are perfection. Mind you I wouldn't expect anything less from someone who does it 2-4 times a week.

Best of luck to Arby. Make sure you have one or two jogs up the touchline every week. Should prevent you getting a numb arse.

Ahhh !! The lure of Real Madrid finally got you in the end eh Alvaro.

Well I wish you all the best, you made your name at Anfield, we turned you from an average player into a very good Spanish International.

Will miss your goal celebrations, like JD said, enjoy warming the Real Madrid bench.

See you for another 4-0 thrashing next season  ;)

Bye Arby at least you were honest about where you wanted to play your football unlike some, you at least deserve some respect for that, all the best at Madrid sincerely hope you have not blew your World Cup chances and that you get a consistent run of games at Madrid or the whole move has been nothing. All the best Fella.

Can understand your point deffo, especially in today's inflated market.  I think Benitez suggested £6M initially but I guess our hands were tied with him in his final year. And as he signed in January 07 it may well have been a contract until January 2010 which may have made matters worse.

All the best Arby I for one will miss you and personally would have love to seen you stay to improve further under Rafa and challenge Johnson for that spot. Definetly the most under rated right back in the season gone.

Good bye lad and thanks for the memories.
