      I don't agree, they are an essential part of the build up to the start of the League programme.

      The players can train all they like, but what they want is games, and that's exactly what this is all about.

      Totally disagree.  Would you prefer to play no matches inbetween Spurs at the end of last season and the opening fixture against the same opposition at the beginning of this season coming?  Because that would achieve absolutely nothing.  Friendlies don't just fine tune fitness, but help serve the purpose of getting players accustomed with their teammates again after the long break in pre-season.  Plus at least they fill the gap between seasons for us fans. ;)
