Gillett coming to Hull game to do some Nascar business

Liverpool Owner to Meet Gulf Royals to Discuss Joint Program
Liverpool co-owner George Gillett plans to meet with members of a Gulf royal family to discuss developing soccer academies in the Middle East and North Africa.

Gillett, a part-owner of Nascar’s Richard Petty Motorsports, told Bloomberg News that the sides will also talk at tomorrow’s Premier League match with Hull about building Nascar-style race tracks in the Middle East.

“We are constantly looking for ways to expand our presence throughout the world and this is one step we are considering,” Gillett said in a telephone interview.

Gillett and his partner Tom Hicks are looking to raise funds to restart work on a new stadium for the 18-time English league champion and reduce debt of 240 million pounds ($386 million) with Royal Bank of Scotland Plc and Wachovia Corp. It’s unclear if a future equity investment will be discussed with the Mideast group.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg News revealed details of a March 2009 document prepared by the club’s bankers Rothschild and Merrill Lynch that proposed raising 100 million pounds, through an equity sale and new loans, to pay down existing debts. In July, the owners used 50 million pounds of their own money to refinance the debt.

The document also revealed a number of revenue-boosting plans, which included converting 1,000 regular seats into corporate seating and a push to build branded academies overseas. Some of the best young players from the foreign training centers will be invited to practice at Liverpool’s main development facility.

      Shirt Sponsor

Liverpool’s financial status received a boost last week when it announced a record sponsorship with Standard Chartered Plc, which will pay about 20 million pounds a season to replace Carlsberg A/S on the front of the players’ shirts. The deal is around 6 million pounds more than the club forecast it would get if it renewed with Carlsberg.

Some of that new money is likely to go toward improving the club’s financial position.

In June, Liverpool’s parent company, Kop Football (Holdings) Ltd., announced a loss of 42.6 million pounds for the year ended July 2008 on interest charges of 36.5 million pounds. Liverpool plans to increase commercial revenue to 111.4 million pounds from 59 million pounds in the next five years, according to the investment document.

Is it amazing that they leave it to the last minute to say they are coming to a match, you'd think they would be scared of the reaction if they gave notice they were coming. :)

Why don't you try and sell the club to members of the Gulf royal family, George?

      From SOS:

George Gillett - You're Not Welcome Here!
George Gillett - You're Not Welcome Here!
      Fri 25 Sep 2009

George Gillett intends to visit Anfield tomorrow. His reasons behind coming are to talk to visitors about LFC branded academies across the Middle East and to talk about his 'beloved' NASCAR. An all expenses paid trip to Anfield is obviously the best way to do this.

Just like his missing partner Tom Hicks, George Gillett is not welcome here. Spirit Of Shankly will do everything they can to make his time in this country uncomfortable. Whilst he kept his visit quiet and flew into Manchester, and whilst he has decided to stay outside of Liverpool - in Manchester nonetheless - he still has to come to Anfield.

So tomorrow, let's make sure George Gillett feels uncomfortable. Before and during the game. Let's make sure he goes home with the message loud and clear, never to return. We urge all members, and everyone who cares about this football club to meet outside the Salisbury (The Solly) on Walton Breck Road at 1pm. Let us make our selves heard and seen, that George Gillett is not welcome. During the game, we urge all fans to make it known, George Gillett is not welcome. Chants have to be heard, and banners have to be seen.

Tom & George - Not Welcome Here!

That's nothing is it? Well at least the impact on him wouldn't be much.

It would be nice if we had sung something about Gillett along the lines of F**k Off Chelsea FC.

We tried to get some chants going at half time, but that didnt go down to well with alot of our fellow "supporters" for some unknown reason.

Unfortunately apathy rules! It won't be until we are so far in the sh*t, that the majority will want to get involved.

You only have to look at The next Leeds? thread, a lot of people are saying that won't happen to us, which is what the Leeds fans were probably saying not so long ago.

Agreed mate. Fortunately Rafa is papering over the cracks. But ffs we all know the squad is weak, on their day the first 11 will match anyone, but in the modern era, how sound is that. The problem now is, that to compete, you have to have 18 world class players plus 6 good quality back up players and a second string/academy setup. Our problem is with the first team squad, we need quality backup in key areas, a fact that the owners fail to realise. So Hicks seeing us whip Hull 6-1 will do nothing to change his attitude, the test will come next week against the chavs.
