Chelsea banned from signing players until 2011

Chelsea Handed Transfer Ban

Fifa have banned Chelsea from registering any new players in the next two transfer windows.

The world's governing body have handed down the punishment after French clubs Lens made an official complaint over Chelsea's signing of their young player Gael Kakuta in 2007.

Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) has now found in Lens' favour and ruled that Chelsea are 'jointly and severally liable'.

As such Chelsea have been banned from signing players over the next two transfer windows, which will mean they will not be able to bring a player into the club until 2011.

As well as the ban Chelsea have been fined £680,000 and will have to pay Lens £113,000 in compensation.

Kakuta, a regular in Chelsea's reserve side, has also been banned from playing for the next four months.

Based on this excerpt, you could be right: "The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach."

Chelsea currently has four African players who can play for the African Nations Cup. Drogba, Essien, Kalou and Mikel. I suppose the worst case scenario for them is an injury during the tournament to a non-African player. Perhaps, Anelka being injured while Drogba and Kalou is away, which leaves them with no striker save... *checks wiki* ... a Daniel "who?" Sturridge.

Under FIFA regulations Chelsea now have 10 days in which to lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Given the severity of the punishment, it is almost certain the club will take that course of action.

Back in July 2005 Italian club Roma were similarly banned from signing players for a one year period over the controversial signing of defender Philippe Mexes from French club Auxerre. However, CAS later overturned FIFA's ruling.

I'll be praying that the ruling wouldn't be overturned.. Come on CAS.

Kenyon happy with dealings

The Blues failed to bring in a big-name signing before the transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday despite being linked with a host of players.

Chelsea managed to tie down key trio John Terry, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba this summer and Kenyon believes securing the side's best players is as important as bringing in new faces.

"I think there's been a lot of emphasis generally around football on transfers, but we've added to our squad," Kenyon told Sky Sports News.

"We've been quiet, but we got the players we wanted.

"If I look at Didier Drogba, if I look at Ashley Cole, if I look at John Terry those are players who could walk into any other team in Europe."

Impact

Kenyon believes new Blues coach Carlo Ancelotti has had a positive impact in West London, with Chelsea enjoying a fine start to the new season in winning their opening four Premier League games.

"Carlo's made a big impact already, he's an experienced manager. He's done it as a player, done it as a coach and he's really engaged in playing in the Premiership," noted Kenyon.

Kenyon is confident Chelsea will enjoy success under Ancelotti and believes they can achieve a clean sweep of all honours, with the coveted UEFA Champions League crown at the top of their wanted list.

"We think we can win everything, but I think the reality of that is there is an added edge.

"I was at the Champions League draw with John Terry last week and John made the point he is fed up walking past the trophy, he wants to pick it up.

"That is the desire we've got at Chelsea."

Good news this certainly brought a smile to my face this afternoon...how ever I can expect them appealing and the Ban either being lifted or reduced. All the same its a very bold statement of intent from fifa.

Lets just hope Chelsea suffer hurrendous injuries to key players in this campaign and see where were at at the end of the season...to say i'm feeling smug is an understatement

It may all come down to how lucky they are regarding injuries, if they end up losing several keys players to long injuries, it could just cost them any chances they have. Its the best bit of news i've heard since the signing of Aquilani in regards to our chances.

I'm going to hold my judgement on this, as they will appeal with "strongest possible appeal"...meaning they will prob's go to European Supreme court and try and get around the ban with it being unfair trading standards or some sh*te like that.

I think Fifa are spot on with the punishment. I think they should look at Ronaldo's and Alonso's signing too, as Real Madrid basically tapped the players up, and I'm pretty sure a deal was made for Ronaldo before. Love to see those f**ker's get a ban aswell.

It wouldn't affect them that badly. ManUre have a younger squad, they also have a bigger squad and a decent youth system.
Chelsea, have an old squad, which is decent sized (but not as big as everyone thinks), and a sh*te youth system. They are in the sh*t.

I would expect to hear some big announcement about this over the coming days, I'd imagine Chelsea will be putting together quite a legal team bank rolled by the Russians millions to fight this.

The mancs, if I'm not mistaken are being looked by the FIFA as well for the signing of Paul Pogba from Le Harve.

Apparently Le Harve ain't happy with what the mancs are doing, and are lodging a complaint or something along that lines - so if all does well then they might get banned. They also signed Macheda and a couple others the same way which left clubs unhappy. Think the mancs are bigger culprits so they might not get away with it just yet.

As much as the mancs have a younger squad, getting banned for 2 seasons would be a plus. I'll imagine the likes of VDS, Scholes, Gary Neville, Giggs to be retired. And others like Ferdinand, Owen, Berbatov in years of 32-33 but still running their asses off.

If the mancs get affected by this as well then its going to be great.
