How fast's your broadband?

What the f**k? This is some serious sh*t.

The fiber optic sh*t? Yeah, it's crazy, going up fast. A provider is already offering 1 Gb/s download and upload in some small towns here.

Not very useful yet, but it should be once 4k and 8k ultra high definition starts kicking in.

Already happy with this, but I just got an e-mail saying they're upgrading it to 150 Mb/s sometime this month, which is pretty awesome.

Been looking at fiber optic, which I have access to since this year. 500 Mb/s download AND upload. I really want it, but it's still too expensive, like 85 euros a month. Although that does include TV too, I pay half that right now for my package including TV so yeah. I hope by next year the price will have dropped enough for me to consider it.

I honestly don't get why Dutch Internet is so beast . This is the connection of one of my Dutch friends from a couple years ago when I went over.

Nice, that upload speed especially is out of the norm here for normal cable, which is what UPC offers. Looking at their current packages, they're not even offering that high upload speed anymore.

And yeah, I am. I guess my country has always invested into internet infrastructure, us and Sweden have always had solid internet compared to most of Europe.

And to why, that's hard to say. It's hard to say whether there is good internet because we're very active online, or that we're very active online because there's good internet everywhere. Or maybe both and they influence each other. But I do know that we are very active online, and have been since internet came up. Nowadays too, with social media, internet banking, online gaming, and online trade and stuff like that, we rank quite high usually on a European and even global level when it comes to participation and activity.

It was a couple years ago so I'm sure they've reduced their upload speed to make things more affordable. Either way I didn't have any problems downloading porn.

Good enough for me to understand mate, but it looks funny I'll admit.

Another free speed update with Virgin. Just agree to another years contract and get a free upgrade starting June to December 2014. should see me go from 60mb to 100mb.

Probably not a wise idea. Virgin have just been subject to a leveraged buyout and are on their way downhill fast.

You're subject to very thin usage caps with them, too. And why are they giving free upgrades? To cover the major price increases.

As you know it is "unlimited use" broadband with Virgin 

They catch you coming and going. I have a download limit during certain periods of the day when if I go over them I get throttled, and if they can't catch me with that they have throttling when you download from certain sites. Although to be fair since I went to 60meg I haven't been throttled once.

But I pay less than £30 per month for 60meg (soon to be 100meg) broadband which also includes a phone line with free calls (after 6 and at weekends), also used to include basic TV as well, but I had a heated discussion with them about that and told them to shove it......I hardly used it anyway.

Not a patch on what it used to be like when it was Blueyonder , but suits me at the moment.

The main benefit is steady as a rock speeds, at least in my area.

Pretty poor speed Andy, mate. What speed were you quoted in your broadband order?

The engineer should fix it for you (he did for me) in any case - you've probably somehow got the wrong profile on.

Also, be aware that if you turn your router off at night your line profile slows down because it thinks that something is wrong with your connection - never turn your router/modem off if you can help it.

download speed =1.09Mbps and
upload speed =0.87Mbps

Not bad.. still a rip off though at £24 a month unlimited..
4G is gonna be on my doorstep soon, probably in the next couple of months for an extra tenner so we'll wait n see..

I have finally ditched mobile broadband after my speeds got worse and worse over the past few months. I now have fast broadband with Virgin Media. 

Got infinity installed near us a few weeks back. 51 down 18 up.

I did have 6 down and 0.4 up for about a year so it's nice to be back in the real world!

Same here and having lived in the countryside all my life it's F***ing amazing to finally be free of glorified dialup
