Supposed to be 150 mb/s but never mind. Fast enough. Only use Internet for browsing the web. Do not download any large files whatsoever.

EDIT: a slight improvement by 15mb/s

Reminds me of mobile broadband when it's a lot worse than it should be.  :(

According to VM's website, the service is very good in my area/street.

Gonna change my provider, I get a vision of someone, somewhere with a big handle operating my broadband.

After a sustained period of being a pig with slow speeds and regular dropouts, normal service seems to have been resumed but the average speed is down from around 44-47 to 34-37.

I don't mind that, it's the dropouts that frustrate me so much. I had so many of them with mobile broadband.

I'm supposedly on a contract with Talk Talk but if the signal quality is consistently sh*t couldn't I jib them?

I'm not sure to be honest, Stuey. I like to think that yes you can but I suspect it's a long and protracted process.

It's worth taking further if you want out.

Is this sh*te? I live in the beautiful Valleys but i'm afraid that this is the consequence of being surrounded by sheep!

I have a question. If my download speed is 6.91 Mb/s then why when i download a film do i only get a maximum download speed of 900 Kb/s?

I know F**k all about internet stuff by the way.

Your actual internet download speed is rated in bits (megabits), whereas downloads & transfers from websites/servers are rated in bytes (kilobytes; megabytes; terabytes). There are eight bits to a byte, so essentially if you divide your advertised download speed (6.91Mb/s) by 8, then you'll get 0.863 - so 863KB/s.

So your downloads are actually a little higher than your speed says.

It's great. Unfortunately we just bought a new place in a neighbourhood where there is no fiber yet, so I'll be among the common internet folk again in a few months. ;)

Thanks for explaining that to me Res. I thought that if my advertised speed was 6 Mbps then my download speed would be the same. Didn't know that, thanks again.

No i don't mate, i'm with BT. Used to be with Sky but i know for a fact they choke the speeds down during the daytime. Can't comment on Plusnet i'm afraid. I'm sure somebody on here does though.

Yeah, a few years ago I dreamt of such speeds! I currently live a bit outside of Amsterdam. It's not that fast everywhere yet though, but comparitively my country has always had reliable and fast internet. With mobile too, read the other day we have one of the best 4G coverages in the world. And alot of free Wifi everywhere, like right now in the train I'm in. I guess it's an advantage of our high population density. Makes it cost effective to invest in internet infrastructure.

I haven't used them, but they're a part of BT.

They offer mostly the same products and services, the only difference being the brand name, router and pricing.

They were invented to compete with TalkTalk, and they're doing just that.

Aha it all makes sense, them and TalkTalk both have such similar marketing and pricing. Thanks for the info Res

We've had Sky here too the last year but are looking to switch it up because we don't want a TV package anymore. I was looking at the no line rental options as well seeing as the home landline is pretty redundant in our house. There's a few companies offering satellite broadband but I want to read some feedback from customers before I jumped ship.
