CRICKET: My new bat design

I wasn't exactly sure on where to put this, so apologies in advance mods, if it's in the wrong section.

I have recently designed this cricket bat. It was an old Gray Nicholls.

Over the years, I've noticed that bats in general havn't always had huge variety in style and creativity and thought that I would knock up my own. I've actually designed and created  quite a bit over the years as I love Visual Arts, and have hand-printed countless sports T-shirts and football tops, portraits, some minor murals and more.

I wanted to make an eye-catching '3D' looking bat. I hand carved it, and painted the sword with Artist acrylics. The handle of the sword was stained with a timber stain and the black surrounds was sprayed with enamel paint.
I still have yet to spray the design with a high gloss lacquer which will make it look much more polished, and am working on the brand logo on the face of the bat, and will use linseed oil on the face.

The design is based on a famous Arabian sword, and hope to design some more bats in a series based on Historical Generals and Conquerors throughout the history of Mankind ranging form Richard The LionHeart, Alexander the Great, Roman, Viking, Celts, Samurai, Charlemagne, Genghis Khan and much more.


I'd love to get some feedback. What do you think about the design?

I'm hoping it's for use mate as I intend to wield the sword when our season starts in the next few weeks.

There shouldn't be a problem as there is nothing attached to the bat, as it hasn't affected the width, strength etc.

Top stuff RedStorm...looks and sounds like you've done a lot of hard work there. Suppose you've had plenty of time on your hands since the Bombers crashed out of the Finals at the first go  .


Seriously though mate, nice work, hope they let you use the bat and you smash them all over the park. You never know you might get a contract with England's one day squad

A clean sweep would be nice Aussie. It'll soften the Ashes blow just a tad.

TBH i wouldn't use it. It'd look to good for me to damage I love my bat, served me well but just doesn't have the intricate detail of yours, shall we say. Just plain wood with no stickers.

No problem. A bat that you are used and has served you well is always a comfort thing.

I hope it piles on the runs for you this season. 49 is a good start.

I dont know a thing about Cricket but that Bat is awesome. The gold leaf and "aged" look is great.

Anyone who can do that with wood is a craftsmen in my book. Nice job!
