The host city will be chosen today. Right now I'm watching my beloved city (Rio de Janeiro) presentation.

I hope so but I'm really nervous. It's a proud day for us "cariocas" (people from Rio) anyway, just hope we make it! Even the argies want us to host the games, just seen a poll in a famous paper website and 79% of them wanted Rio. It's not only for Rio and Brazil, South America deserves it.

There's also the fact Europe recently had Atens, will have London in 2012 and also Russia hosting the winter games soon. I hope they don't make it an European overdose.

Rio are certainly favourites, but there's no denying that Madrid is an incredible city with so much potential.

Still reckon Rio will win it though.

Rio to stage 2016 Olympic Games

Brazil will become the first South American country to host the Olympics, after the city of Rio de Janeiro was chosen to stage the 2016 Games.

Rio won a majority of the 95 votes at the meeting in Copenhagen, eliminating Madrid in the final round. Tokyo and Chicago had been knocked out earlier.

Earlier, Brazil's president told IOC members "it was time to light the Olympic flame in a tropical country".

Chicago's early exit was a surprise, with bookmakers making them favourites.

Rio's presentation to the International Olympic Committee delivered a passionate appeal for South America to be awarded the Games.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told the meeting: "Rio is ready. Give us this chance and you will not regret it."

"Rio will deliver an unforgettable Games. You will see for yourselves the passion, the energy and the creativity of the Brazilian people."

President Lula said 2016 was an opportunity for the IOC to show that the Games belonged to people of all continents.

"I truly believe this is Brazil's time. For the others, it would be just another Games," he added.

"It will not be just Brazil's Games but South America's. It will serve to inspire the 180m young people on the continent. It is time to redress the balance."

Madrid's surprising success in reaching the final round came after former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch made an emotional appeal for votes.

"I know that I am very near the end of my time. I am, as you know 89 years old. May I ask you to consider granting my country the honour and also the duty to organise the games in 2016," he said.

However, a win for Madrid would have made it three European-based Olympics in a row, with London 2012 and Sochi 2014 preceding it.

Haha!  I did the same when London got 2012.  Was at work and we were watching the result on the telly in the boardroom.  Everyone went mad!

Should be spectacular in Rio though.  Well done!

Conf. Cup and WC are national events, but the finals will be played at the Maracanã, in Rio. 5 minutes from my house.

Good for Rio!

The Olympics brings such an energy to the town its crazy.  I live In Atlanta and the Olympics totally revitalized the entire city and state. Totally worth it.

Plus, for all you dudes.  I dont know why, but the Olympics is just "Ass Soup", beautiful women just falling out of the windows. Night of opening ceremonies, go to a club. Foreign women just drinking and dancing. Its great. 

You English lads take note too, your getting the Summer games soon.  FYI. Sweden,Holland,Denmark and those weird former Russian Countries. Their women are Crazy!  They just love kissing foreign dudes.  I sh*t you not. Their beyond wild, almost scary...almost.

But when the games are over and everyone leaves, as long as the Infrastructure was done correctly and planning thought out, Rio will never be the same. It will be a better city.
