Why benching Voronin all the time? Even in such a game, playing Ngog!

In all honesty, what has Voronin done for us this season that N'Gog hasn't done?

We can all argue until the cows come home about Voronin, N'Gog, Lucas or that f*cking beach ball, but at the end of the day, we're massively short on cover for Torres and it shows in times like this.

Voronin plays in between the line in other words behind the striker... Ngog in other hand, like Torres is a target man.. that is difference... work out the rest.

What didn't help N'Gog tonight was playing him as a lone striker, with no-one alongside to help him, so everytime he did get the ball, there were at least three Lyon players around him and the defence just hoofing balls at him chest or head height. Don't remember many balls on the deck he could run onto.

Because with Wash being French it makes sense to throw him in as he might up his game. As a young lad playing for a English team -V- Lyon and a possibility of making a name for himself back home. Plus he's better than Voro anyway.

I fear its a game we MUST WIN!!!!!

very early on the season.. 7 point gap now, could be 10 if we lost.. 7 if we draw or 4 if we win... even being 7 points behind them may not be too bad in earlly as october...

we can beat united and its what we really need now... maybe its the right team to play against to get a big result as it can change the whole complex and boost mentality after beating them....

Walking through a storm now lads.

Plenty of opportunities to put the game to bed early doors, but yet again just like on many previous occassione we were not clinical enough. That point blank header from Aurelio goes in 2-0 us going into half time the opportunity to reshuffle and reorganise for the second half. Hindsight is a great thing though.

I really am well fed up with Gerrard's and Torres's niggling injuries it is coming to the point of being ridicolous made me very ticked off seeing Torres smiling 20 minutes in to the game at 0-0.

What the F**k were you smiling at lad?? Nothing to smile at all, if he has dignity he would certainlfy feel some guilt and a duty to repay Rafa and us fans with some goals ASAP!

I thought Kelly was brilliant well in lad an excellent debut. How Mascherano is not in the man of the match top 3 is beyond me, he was F***ing immense.

Apart from the cover we have. I really think we need to go back to basics with defending.. Even when we were terrible before this season we gave nothing away. Get all the boys coaching on how to defend and to get goal side. it's frightening to see such gaps at the back. My worry for Sunday is that if we are that loose players like Rooney and Berbatov will skin us. Tighten the f**k up lads

What also doesn't help is both midfielders sitting virtually on top of the defence, we were just asking Lyon to attack us.

Good point.  Both the midfielders were sitting too far back.  I can only think it was to counter-attack Lyon's pretty impressive counter-attacking.

My gut feeling? I think this is down to confidence.  You tend to find team's playing poorly begin over-compensating by staying further and further back.  It is the responsibilty of Carragher and Agger to move further forward and drive the midfield forward.

I thought Carragher was not only clueless in defending but offered nothing as a captain either.

Voronin plays in between the line in other words behind the striker... Ngog in other hand, like Torres is a target man.. that is difference... work out the rest.

A Target man my Friend is someone who look to bring others into the game by holding the ball up, generally big strong, good in the air, and is generally deployed as a lone striker.  Players in the mould of Jan Koller, Carew would fit his description.  Torres on the other hand is a unique player as he is regarded as an all rounder or 'complete striker', possessing all the essential attributes of a striker, good technique, can receive the ball to feet, can take through balls, good in the air, can bring others into the game and lead the line.  So theres just a little lesson for you today son.  Check out the excellent FM2010 - the new tactics system brilliantly defines, describes all roles on the pitch, as well as the associated attributes with a certain role.  Hope this has helped make this clear
