      Injury Update...
      Nov 12, 2009 06:03:36 pm
Rafael Benitez has today brought us up to date with the very latest news from the treatment room at Melwood.
With some players sustaining new injuries during Monday night's draw with Birmingham and with others on the road to recovery after earlier setbacks, the medical staff are among the busiest people at the club right now as they look to provide the boss with as many players as possible for our next game against Manchester City in ten days time.

Here's what Rafa told Liverpoolfc.tv earlier today.

"Both Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera have muscle problems and will be out for three to four weeks. It depends on each player, but for Riera this is the second time with this injury.

"We will have to wait and see how they progress but hopefully in three weeks they could be available.

"We are disappointed because there are too many things at the moment that we can't change. Both players are wingers as well and for them to be out at the same time is bad news for us.

"Daniel Agger felt something in his back after the Birmingham game and didn't go with Denmark after we spoke with their doctor and manager. I think he could be back training again in a few days.

"Glen Johnson's was a strange situation because he finished the game on Monday and then travelled to London to be with England. He felt something in his hamstring and came back to us for a scan. Hopefully it's not too serious and he could be available again in a week.

"With Fernando Torres we are talking about two or three weeks of treatment and working with the physios. I was talking with him this morning and he is doing well. Hopefully he can be running in a few days and we will see how he progresses.

"It was good to have Steven Gerrard back on Monday night. He is feeling okay and should be training fully with the other players we have here in a few days.

"Sometimes a break comes at a bad time because you don't like to see your players flying all over the world, but this time it gives us a chance to get some players back."

Last year, after Yossi got back from injury, he played his best EVER, let's hope for the same thing.

At least good news on Stevie, the rest is very sad. Can not believe the crisis we have at the moment. Any club would be seriously shaken with this kind of thing happening.

sort of get the feeling certain players have been rushed back especially with players having recurrences of heir old injury's.i am losing confidence in the medical team.i may be over reacting but i don think his many injury's are down to coincidence.

We've been plagued all season even our untried new signing is injured - this could be a glimmer of better fortune for us here's hoping.

Wish we could turn the clock back and start this season all over again....without all the bad luck and injuries that we've had.

It can't go on much longer, surely.  ::)

Thing is, with so many players missing some are ought to be rushed back sooner or later.

Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio has been forced to pull out of Brazil's squad to face England and is the Premier League club's latest injury worry. Steven Gerrard, Fernado Torres, Glen Johnson, Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera are among the other injured first-teamers.

Fábio Aurélio injury adds to Liverpool's woes

Fábio Aurélio injury adds to Liverpool's woes

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/nov/12/liverpool-brazil

      • Benítez's injury list growing ahead of Man City game

      • Pressure at Anfield 'worse' than with Brazil, says midfielder

Liverpool's Fabio Aurélio has been forced to pull out of Brazil's squad to face England after suffering a muscle injury, his national federation has confirmed. The left-sided defender, who can also play in midfield, will miss the match in Doha and Brazil's friendly against Oman.

His injury is another cause of concern for Rafael Benítez, who is likely to have a severely weakened squad for Liverpool's next Premier League game, at home against Manchester City on 21 November, with Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun all receiving treatment. The manager does, however, expect Glen Johnson to be available after a hamstring strain.

The Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has revealed that the pressure he currently experiences playing for his club side is worse than the weight of expectation he carries when featuring for the five-times World Cup winners, Brazil.

Lucas has been a regular in Benítez's struggling Liverpool side this season, with the team having won only once in their past nine games in all competitions. That sequence has left them trailing the Premier League leaders, Chelsea, by 11 points after only 12 matches and on the brink of elimination from the Champions League.

"Right now, the pressure of playing for Liverpool is worse than for Brazil," said the midfielder, who could start against England on Saturday after Juventus' Felipe Melo hobbled out of the team's training session at the Al Gharafa Sports Club tonight.

"In Brazil we have already qualified [for the World Cup] and we will, of course, have pressure in playing a big team like England. But at Liverpool now it is worse.

"We are in a difficult situation right now. We have to fight to qualify for the Champions League and the Premier League, too. First of all we have to get into the top four. Against Lyon, United and even in the last game, against Birmingham we played well but we conceded goals with mistakes. Hopefully the international break has come at a good time for us. Some players are injured so, hopefully, they will have time to return to fitness for the next game."

Lucas is much maligned figure at Anfield, where he has commanded a regular first-place since Xabi Alonso's sale to Real Madrid in the summer, but has shown signs in recent weeks of winning over the doubters.

"I know the pressure now at Liverpool is difficult and, while I am thinking about the games for the national team now [against England and then in Oman on Tuesday] I know I have to go back and help the situation. Even now, even here, I don't feel well about what is happening. No one feels well about it. But if we keep the same mentality, we can get out of it. It is a time when we need to stick together."

Update on Nando from the Echo:

Fernando Torres starts rehabilitation to avoid groin surgery: Liverpool FC latest
Nov 13 2009 By Dominic King

FERNANDO TORRES has started a rehabilitation and treatment programme in a bid to avoid the need to have surgery on his groin injury.

The Spanish striker has been hampered by a troublesome groin problem for the much of the past two months and missed Monday night’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City at Anfield.

Torres also pulled out of the Spain squad for their friendly with Argentina tomorrow as Liverpool try to eradicate the problem.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez has a number of injury concerns and is looking at how best to get Torres through his problem.

Torres is definitely out of the next match with Manchester City at Anfield a week tomorrow and could also miss the Champions League trip to Debrecen and the Merseyside derby.

Benitez said: "With Fernando Torres we are talking about two or three weeks of treatment and working with the physios.

"Hopefully he can be running in a few days and we will see how he progresses. Sometimes a break comes at a bad time because you don’t like to see your players flying all over the world, but this time it gives us a chance to get some players back."

Liverpool Reserves’ trip to Wigan has been put back 24 hours and will now be played on Wednesday, November 25 (7.30pm).

The home game with Blackburn, due to be played on December 2, will now be played on Monday, February 8 (7pm).

      http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2009/11/13/fernando-torres-starts-rehabilitation-to-avoid-groin-surgery-liverpool-fc-latest-100252-25159244/2/

I don't know anything about sportman's hernias but why is it preferable to not have surgery if it takes this long for the injury to heal anyway?  Does surgery create a weakness or something?

A piece of brighter news for a change on Stevie!  From the official site:

      NEWS STORY
GERRARD: I'M READY TO FACE CITY
      James Carroll 17 November 2009
Steven Gerrard today handed Liverpool a major injury boost after the captain revealed he is ready to take on Manchester City this weekend.
A groin injury kept the 29-year-old sidelined for several weeks recently, but he made a return as a substitute in the Reds' 2-2 draw with Birmingham City last time out.

With Liverpool currently in the midst of a two-week hiatus from action due to the international break, Gerrard has used the recess to step up his rehabilitation from the problem - and is confident of facing Mark Hughes' side on Saturday.

"I felt very tired after the game, as I wasn't really ready to return (against Birmingham) and I'd done very little training in the three weeks beforehand," he said.

"It took me two or three days to recover from that game but I have spent the past week doing strengthening work and I'm feeling a lot better now. I'm looking forward to the weekend. There's no mental hurdle to cross.

"I've had a problem in my groin that has taken a while to get over but I'm just relieved the second injection seems to have done the trick.

"It's a case of so far so good and the aim now is to make sure I get a good week's training under my belt so I'm ready for the game with City."

Gerrard's spell on the treatment table saw him sit out key matches with Manchester United and Lyon, as well as clashes against Sunderland, Arsenal and Fulham.

The No.8 acknowledges it has been frustrating to watch on from the stands - but he is now relishing a return to the starting XI and with it, a chance to help Liverpool reignite their campaign.

"Some of the lowest points in my career have come about when I have had to miss big games for Liverpool and England through injury," he admits.

"It's never easy when you have to sit out games against Manchester United or trips away from home in the Champions League.

"If the lads are winning games and doing well, it makes the pain a bit easier so obviously the last couple of weeks have been extra frustrating.

"But I'm feeling good now, a lot stronger than before and it's just a question of getting my match sharpness back now. That is the most important thing."

      More good news!

LATEST: TRIPLE INJURY BOOST FOR BENITEZ
      Jimmy Rice 17 November 2009
Rafa Benitez is confident of having Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson fit to face Man City this weekend.
All three have trained well after sitting out international duty and should be available for Saturday's crunch fixture against Mark Hughes' men.

However, Benitez is likely to be without top scorer Fernando Torres.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Agger is okay. He had a small problem with his back but he's training. It was a very good decision from Denmark's manager (to withdraw Agger) because he is much better now. I think he'll be okay for the weekend.

"Johnson has been training. Not full sessions, but training, so hopefully he'll be okay for the weekend too.

"Gerrard is doing well. He finished a full training session today, so if he can carry on then he'll be okay as well.

"Fernando Torres is training with the physios, so I don't think he'll be available."

Benitez also had good news to report on hamstring duo Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera, who were originally ruled out for four weeks after pulling up against Birmingham on November 9.

The boss said: "I was talking about four weeks but they are working hard with the physios and doing special treatments. We have to check but maybe they'll be back earlier than expected."

Meanwhile, Benitez expects to have David Ngog available for our forthcoming fixtures despite breaking his nose with France U21s.

"We know Ngog has broken his nose but it's not serious," he said. "I am not sure yet because we haven't seen him but I think he'll be okay, it won't be serious."

Elsewhere, Fabio Aurelio - who could not accept a long-awaited call to the Brazil squad due to a calf injury - remains a concern.

"It's a pity because he was waiting for this call for a long time, then when he got the opportunity he had a problem," said Benitez. "He's improving but still has a little bit of a problem with his calf. It will be difficult for him to play against Man City."

Apparently they've undergone a special treatment in Serbia, which includes massaging and horse placenta :P Dutch media also reports Liverpool want the woman running this treatment to become part of the staff. (They're reporting about all this because Van Persie is undergoing the same treatment)

If we can get Yossi to make a cameo appearance against Man City,it would be enough for me as he is extremely dangerous in such appearances.

That's true mate. I ate both my boys placenta's, quite tasty and probably the most nutritious meal you can get on the planet. I know it sounds sick, but they are nice. Unfortunately I'm not planning on having any more kids, otherwise I'd have sent you a portion ( in a hermetically sealed container of course). We made curries out of ours though. It's just the thought that's the only off-putting part of it.

Once both of our boys were born, they couldn't wait to get their f**king hands on it, they tell you that they use them for research, but actually they sell them on to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies, to develop anti-ageing creams and shampoos and other stuff. No way was I letting those greedy bas**rds make a profit off my boys, they were most welcome to come round my house and pick the leftovers out of my sh*t if they wanted to though. For some strange reason, they declined.

Hello my dear friends, I'm a Liverpool fan from Belgrade :)

Yesterday on a telly I saw information about Liverpool players and about Mariana Kovacevic.

So, if everythings goes fine, you should sing during the matches - In Belgrade, all my troubles seemed so far away...Oh, I believe in Belgreday...:)

The next link is a link for one of our moste releveant web sites. I'm really sorry because it's on serbian, but you canj ust watch the video from yesterdays news, showing Johnson and Aurelio on Belgrade airport.

      http://www.b92.net/sport/fudbal/vesti.php?yyyy=2009&mm=11&dd=18&nav_id=393363

I hope that everything will be fine.

I believe that Liverpool will be in the next stage of Champions League.

Also, maybe it's is a great chance for the friendly match between Red Star Belgrade (which I support) and Liverpool.

Red Star won the Champions League in 1991. (of course, it was not the league, it was cup system).

It could be a good opportunity for Liverpool and Red star fans to show how good they are.

      And they are the best.

      Best regards from Belgrade!

      You'll never walk alone!

God, I thought Fabio was on crutches at first but it's only his suitcase handle ;D

Only thing I can find on this so far is from the Express:

      FOOTBALL JOHNSON SEEKING KOVACEVIC 'MIRACLE’

England's Glen Johnson and Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio are looking for placenta cure
       Thursday November 19,2009
      By Matt Law
GLEN Johnson could be about to join the growing number of footballers seeking the miracle placenta cure of Mariana Kovacevic.

According to sources in Belgrade, England defender Johnson and his Liverpool team-mate Fabio Aurelio were seen arriving at the office of Kovacevic amid rumours Fernando Torres could join them.

With their season in danger of collapse, Liverpool are turning to desperate measures.

Serb Kovacevic claims she can halve recovery time by massaging the injured area with fluid from a placenta.

Johnson last week pulled out of England’s friendly against Brazil with a calf injury and Liverpool are desperate to ensure he is fit to face Manchester City on Saturday.

Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera could be in line for shock returns to action after responding to Kovacevic’s radical treatment on their torn hamstrings earlier this week.

“I have been in Belgrade to see her and I am feeling better already,” said Benayoun.

“My hope now is that I will be fit in one week, two at the most. I have a good feeling about it.”

      http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/141169/Johnson-seeking-Kovacevic-miracle-

What's Glenn doing there?  I was hoping that he was ok.   :(

      QUARTET FIT AFTER 'SPECIAL TREATMENT'
      Jimmy Rice 20 November 2009

Rafa Benitez today revealed how four of his injured stars could be fit for Man City after flying to Serbia for 'special treatment'.
Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun were due to be out for another two weeks with hamstring problems but could now feature on Saturday after the much-publicised journey to eastern Europe.

Benitez was so pleased with the treatment they received that he sent Fabio Aurelio and Glen Johnson to Serbia for work on their muscle injuries.

All four players are now back in Merseyside and have taken part in full training sessions for the past two days.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "You know people have talked about them going to Serbia for special treatment and that's true. We had a lot of reports of international players going there, so we sent some players.

"They are now training so we will see if they can play. They have trained for the last two days.

"It has been good. There are other names from different teams who have been doing this treatment for seven years.

"It is a curative program for players with muscle injuries and it works well."

The major injury headache confronting Benitez before the international break has now almost cleared, with Steven Gerrard, David Ngog and Daniel Agger all passed fit for City.

Fernando Torres is the only senior star still in the treatment room.

Benitez added: "He is improving. He had a plan of two or three weeks, he's following this and improving."

That's some really good news, it's about time we had a bit of good luck. Just so long as our injured players aren't rushed back to quickly and end up being out for longer because of it.

      Maybe you sholud ask Rafa.

Just Relax mate, take some sushi with Toblerone or Milka chocolate. :)

As I said in my negative comment stop spouting sh*t around the forum and TRY to make an effort to put some thought in to your posts.

Despite your many attempts to make your posts humurous they are just not funny at all.

According to that, then, Babel should be fit for Sunday, Torres at the beginning of December (after Fiorentina, I think), and Kelly isn't clear at all.

He was meant to be out 2 or 3 weeks at the end of October, meaning he should have been back for a while already.

He was meant to be out 2 or 3 weeks at the end of October, meaning he should have been back for a while already.

Kelly had a set back according to this interview on 17 November:

      ARCHIVE NEWS STORY
      JOHNSON INSPIRATION FOR INJURED DEFENDER
      Jimmy Rice
Martin Kelly claims he is modelling his game on England’s top right-back in a bid to force his way on to Rafa Benitez’s teamsheet.

The 19-year-old made his first start for Liverpool when he deputised for the injured Glen Johnson against Lyon last month.

His performance reminded onlookers of the England man - and Kelly admits his senior colleague has been an inspiration since arriving from Portsmouth in the summer.

"He's a great player - England's first-choice right-back," Kelly told Liverpoolfc.tv. "There's no one better to model yourself on. It's great to watch him and play with him in training.

"I thought I did well against Lyon. It was my debut and there was pressure - it was my big chance. I thought I took it well.

"Rafa picks the team and there is a great squad here, but as long as I am in and around the squad and training with them, then it can only help me. If I keep working hard I hope I'll get another chance."

Despite an assured display, Kelly's night ended in misery after being forced from the pitch on 74 minutes with an ankle injury.

The youngster was on the cusp of a return but a scan on Sunday revealed a fresh strain in the bottom of his leg.

After spending time with Johnson in the treatment room, Kelly is eager to continue his development back on the training ground.

He explained: "I came back but in my first training session I knocked it again. I went for a scan on Sunday and it showed I have a little strain on my ankle. It's another seven to 10 days.

"It's a setback but I've just got to work hard with the physios to try and get back as soon as possible.

"As a footballer you are going to get injuries. The thing that matters is how you come back from them.

"Obviously I was gutted with the timing of it. There's been a few injuries around the first team so I could have got another chance but I'm still young and hopefully when I'm back I'll have more chances to show what I can do."

      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archivedirs/news/2009/nov/17/N166480091117-0848.htm

So, if that's accurate he could be back very soon, as long as he doesn't pick up another knock.

Babel is no loss, just confuses things, Id rather keep playing wash ngo up front while Torres is out.

the injury list is looking much better, we can cope with 2 or 3, put 7 and 8 injuries really shows up our squad to be poor.

Just shows what a great squad we have, even with all of those we're unbeaten at the top of the league, we've already won two trophies this season and could win another three. This is some team! ;D

I agree this point never gets mention a lot given the talk about Citeh and Laporte injury derailing Citeh season despite earlier in the season talking about how Citeh second XI could fight for a title.

I felt that we had the depth at CM and CB to deal with a couple injuries without a major drop in quality. The biggest surprise to me was the way we dealt with Alisson injury because he is key player who played a position which most would consider very thin given the player we signed was released from West Ham.

With news coming that Lovren and Fabinho are back in training it is looking like we are starting to get bodies back and ready for a run at the title, UCL and FA Cup.

Hell of a list that and & huge number of games missed as well as being all first team players or at least on the bench.
It simply doesn’t get mentioned by the media, pundits etc because it would just add credence to how brilliantly we have coped, the shower of wankers.

Good, let them ignore how great we are and let them secretly cry about it! We don't need their admiration, it's worthless. ;D
