Liverpool v Fiorentina CL Group Stages - Pre match thread
      Dec 06, 2009 10:42:44 pm
So, with no meaning to this game in the CL is it time for Rafa to experiment?

So I am asking who would you experiment with?
      I reckon Aquilani should start
But as for experimenting, maybe Pacheco, Darby? Put Johnson right mid or something?
I mean of course we don't want to be walked over but I'm sure we wouldn't be :P
So yeh what you guys reckon?
      An experimental match?

There's bound to be changes, but more because of the Arsenal game than anything else. I'd put experience in ie. N'Gog rather than Ecclestone, but I'd have the latter on the bench and give him half an hour (for example).

It's a weird one because we don't really want a loss and at the same time it might not be a decent idea to put out a full strength squad.

      I'd maybe rest Gerrard.

What are we 3 wins in 13 games or something? Not really in a position to experiment we need to win games

Still like to go out of CL with a good win though.  In contrast I think Gerrard needs more not less time on pitch!

I would start with the strongest possible team, the line up that Rafa is looking to start against Arsenal. will give them 90 mins to gel together and try some of the tactics for Aqulani role.

This is a glorified Friendly to be honest, Fiorentina need a draw to seal top spot so lets see how it goes.

At least for the start, but if Aquilani is playing i wouldn't mind seeing Masch, Aquilani and Gerrard together in this game at some stage, just to see a glimpse of what we might have with those three on the field.

I doubt the likes of Pacheco will feature as im sure they were not in the CL squad in August.... but will be looking forward to see Aquliani in action... Hopefully Kelly should feature... great prospect.. Torres should have some minutes too..

This game is all about confidence... so i wouldnt call it pointless... its a good game to have as there no pressure lying on the game... the team needs a big performance and the under performers to prove a point..

Need a win to build up momentum from the last 3 games.

      I'd start Aquilani, though.

I'd love to see Aquam...Aquilani (;)) start which Rafa has already hinted at, and I would also love to see Johnson start on the right wing but I doubt that would happen considering who we have to cover for him at right back. Carragher and Kuyt should get a rest, the latter for having a sh*te season so far. Insua as well looks a shadow of the player from the end of last season and its time for Aurelio to get a crack at left back, if he's fit. I'd start N'Gog and have Torres on the bench to come on for the last half an hour. Get him a bit of match practice before the Arse visit next Sunday.

That's what I would do anyway.

I've got a feeling that if Aquilani has got the green light to start, we're gonna see a reserve team.

Next weekend's game is far more important.....

There's always meaning to every Liverpool game.

We need to give these pricks a good hiding out of pride.

                    REINA
      JOHNO SKRTEL AGGER INSUA

                    MASCH
              AQUILANI
      YOSSI                       RIERA
                STEVIE
                   NGOG.

I would go with that, give Dirk a rest, he seems to be getting tired now and performances have dropped too.

There will be no pressure on us.....it will be a walkover.  :f_whistle:

Actually I think it will be quite a hard game, they'll want to put in a decent performance, and we'll want to go out in style, hopefully with a win under our belts.

It will be very interesting to see who Rafa puts out, but I don't expect many changes.

If we win this one, we will get 600k Euro, that's a good enough reason for me to win.

Need to rest some players, and need to give some playing time.

Would love to see the likes of Riera, Gerrard and co. continue to get games under their belt, and the likes of Lucas, Carragher, Reina rested.

Rest the players that we absolutley cannot afford to pick up injuries in a meaningless game so thats Gerrard, Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Masch, Yossi, Riera.

Play Aquiliani with Lucas and chuck some of the youth in and see how they react.

The game on Sunday is more important.

I am going for a big win for the mighty REDS in this one.we will want to prove that we should still be in this competition. All our players have got something to prove so I will go for 5-1 to the MIGHTY REDS.

Gonna say we will lose i'm afraid, i am slowly losing faith in our ability to win matches, i just wanna see Rafa give some players a chance, maybe play Babel, Aquilani, etc...
And give some of our bigger players a well needed rest

There's always meaning to every Liverpool game.
Precisely. It's not like our result would just slip past unnoticed. We are Liverpool and eyes will be on us whether we have anything to gain from a win or not, we need to play for pride.
