Remember Dixie Dean getting the red paint treatment and the same thing happened to whoever the Geordies have outside their ground.
I like the current statue of Shanks, but I think the 'Shankly Gates' and 'Paisley gateway' are also fitting tributes to each respective manager. I am not personally in favour of a huge hunking statue like the Bobby Moore thing at Wembley because it just isn't really the Liverpool way. Neither is naming stands - there is already a Shanklly stand at Preston North End.
The 'Shankly Gates' are folklore - along with Matt Busby Way etc. Let's leave the statues - I would much rather have grinning portraits of our heroes from yesteryear lining the players tunnel to the pitch.
In my opinion, I don't think there is a need for statues. And if there is to be one, it should just be the same Shanks, that's outside The Kop now.
Our club is based on every member being a part of it. A "society". And that's the way it's been for years and that's what makes us special.
For the new stadium, my biggest want, is to take the spirit and history of Anfield there. Not statues.
Less statues, more Spirit and Trophies. That way, our legends will always be a part of our new ground.
