Thanks for the insight, atleticodemadrid. It's always good to hear from people who have seen a player play more than most about them.

      Welcome to the forum.

Maxi Rodriguez jets in to complete transfer from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool FC

Jan 13 2010 by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ insisted it will be business as usual at Anfield tonight – as Maxi Rodriguez moved a step closer to completing his move to Liverpool.

Having experienced a turbulent weekend, which culminated in Tommy Hicks Jr’s much-publicised resignation from the board, the FA Cup third round replay against Reading offers a welcome diversion from off-field matters.

Rodriguez – who was due to undergo a medical this morning – is expected at Anfield to see his new team-mates in action and will wrap up his £1.5m switch from Atletico Madrid once he has finalised his pay-off from the La Liga side.

The Argentine international will then be able to put pen-to-paper on an 18-month contract and, by the time he does that, Benitez hopes Liverpool will have set up a fourth round home clash against Burnley later this month.

For the majority of supporters, talking about this evening’s game has been low on the list of priorities since Hicks Jr became embroiled in an email storm, but that has definitely not been the case for Benitez.

He has had little trouble in keeping focus and has promised that he will field a strong side as Liverpool aim to take their first step on the road to Wembley

“For us it is always important to concentrate on football and the main thing, as usual, is that we have to be ready from the start – other things do not matter,” said Benitez.

      Nice one atleicodemadrid.

Good to read from somebody that has watched him regularly.

You're confident he'll be a good signing for us then? Nice one.

Cheers Atletico. A welcome insight and good to see that you are confident that he will be a good signing. Hope to see Maxi tonight watching the lads and perhaps learning a little bit in the process about what he needs to do to be a success at Liverpool.

I bet you we will be sitting here this time tomorrow saying "Why the F**k have we not signed him yet? And why wasn't he at Anfield last night". ;D
However, lets hope that won't be the case.

Serious! It's on their transfer centre clockwatch aswell.

11.26  Argentina international Maxi Rodriguez has arrived in Liverpool ahead of the completion of his move to Anfield. The winger is expected to watch Wednesday night's FA Cup replay against Reading before finalising the paperwork on his switch from Atletico Madrid.

      Maxi takes taxi to Anfield
"Argentina winger Maxi Rodriguez has arrived in Liverpool ahead of completing his proposed switch to Anfield."

"The 29-year-old Atletico Madrid player is set to undergo a medical before signing an 18-month contract in a £1.5million switch."

"He will then watch his new team-mates in action in Wednesday night's FA Cup third round replay against Reading at Anfield before returning to Spain to tie up the final details of his departure."

"Rodriguez, who is a close friend and international team-mate of Reds midfielder Javier Mascherano, still has to agree his pay-off from Atletico."

      Hoped
"But it is hoped he could be back in England by the weekend to figure in Liverpool's trip to Stoke on Saturday."

"Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez had hoped the deal could have been completed last week, but the former Newell's Old Boys and Espanyol player was unable to finalise the details of his departure."

"His impending arrival comes after Andrea Dossena left the Reds for Napoli, while Andriy Voronin moved to Dinamo Moscow."

"These deals brought in funds totalling £6.5million, and Ryan Babel's name could soon be added to the list of departures now Benitez has been assured that he can have the potential £10million fee to strengthen his squad during this transfer window."

"Benitez had previously been told to wait until the summer before spending on new additions."

I'll believe that last bit about the £10million when I see it, but at least we are making progress - we have signed (well, pretty much) a world class player in Rodriguez and got rid of Voronin and Dossena. :)
