      Stephen Darby player thread
      Jan 05, 2010 02:12:50 am
A scouser, who's come through from the academy and hasn't cost a penny. Captained the youth team to FA Youth Cup success in 2006.

A very good right back who seems to know the basics of defending. All's he needs now is experience. Right? (pun not intended)

He's creeping into the first team lately. Couldn't find a thread for him, so he deserves one now.

Always enjoyed his attitude to the game. He looks the type of player who isn't the type to hide. All the games I seen him play for the reserves he was commanding and solid. No doubt he'll have learned a few things since his move to Melwood in the summer of 06.

With the high priced addition of Glen Johnson this season, he has got the odds stacked against him to get a regular first team place. But from what I've seen of him over the years, that won't stop him plugging away.

At Reading Stephen grew in stature with every kick of the ball, in my opinion.

He seems, to me anyhow, to be a really solid defender; strong in the tackle and fast. I have no doubt, given the breaks/chance he'll have no bother adapting to the higher level of the first team. He deserves his place against Spurs and should be trusted.

Having just played a handful of games, he's seemed to impress.

I believe with more games under his belt, he can become better and will challenge for the RB spot soon.

Promising player, ever since I've watched him I've been impressed with him and Kelly. Darby is better defensively than Degen thats for sure.

I just hope he isn't loaned out to some European back water.

According to the official site."Rafa's desperate to find cover @ RB while the window still open"
Surely Darby could step in there? Also Kelly is now back in training.Would love to see them given opportunities.

Darby is a bit light weight at the moment he really needs to strengthen up before he is ready to compete for a first team place.

Stephen has got of to a flying start at Swindon, playing every minute of the 6 games since his arrival. Swindon have won 5 and drew 1 of these matches, with only one goal being conceeded in the 1-1 draw with top of the table Norwich, also beating Leeds 3-0 on their travels.

Swindon have risen 4 places since his arrival and are currently sitting second in division 1.

Solid player, can't wait for him to be more of a regular/ back up for Glen alongside Kelly when he's fit.

As a Swindon fan, I can say Stephen has been excellent for us, and regular games will be of great benefit to Liverpool so long as Rafa plays him.ps monday 12th Town v Exeter on sky, so you can check his progress.

Darby playes from the start in the crucial game against Charlton for promotion to the Championship. Swindon Town leads from the first match. Tonight's match is played at The Valley. Shelvey is not on the pitch or the bench for Charlton.

Not to mention, played a fair whack of the game, out of position, at left-back and put a damn good shift in.
