Genk talk with Liverpool for cooperation
      Jan 13, 2010 05:21:52 pm
      Belgian media report the following:

Genk talk with Liverpool for cooperation Wednesday 13 January 2010Bron: hbvl author: jav

RC Genk and the English Liverpool FC stand near a cooperation. Tomorrow director Dirk Degraen travels with coach Frank Vercauteren to the Merseyside for an appointment with Rafael Benitez.

' We will examine on which manner we can cooperate in the short term' , Degraen say in the interest of Limburg. ' Liverpool have a wide core and many players get too little playtime. Genk can offer a solution for that, as the offered players strenghten our team.

' A Belgian club is of course especially interesting if it concerns brio of outside the European Union.

' Liverpool want commission gladly hopefuls from Africa and Zuid-Amerika. But the strict British legislation puts them catches in the wheels. We can let mature such to players, however. That win-winsituatie would be for both clubs.'

To be able to get a  work permit in the United Kingdom, a player of outside the European Union must have played for two years at least 75% of the interlands for its country.

A feeder arangement to avoid work permit regulations.
      Like what happened to Leto.

It also meens we can sign young south-americans and africans and loan then there to get playtime and a belgian passport.

This is exactly where we need to be going, I feel that we should spend more time on youth development and making sure that young talent make it into the first team and thrive. I mean one day, I'd like to have Barcelona's problem: there are too many with young talent, and there are only 11 spots in the squad. Investing in youth is less expensive than investing in proven talent, but if done the right way, it can have massive profits in the long run. I mean, look at what players like Stevie, Xavi, Raul, Pirlo, Casillas, Puyol mean to their clubs. It's not only spirit in the locker room, but it's shirt sales and prestige.

I'm a firm believer that over the long term, youth is the key to rescuing LFC. I mean, we've got the history, and the facility to produce incredibly talented youngsters, and I'm not saying we don't have some already. I'm just saying, Gerrard was the last player to come from the system and really make an impact. Even someone like Messi, who became associated with Barcelona at the age of 13, I'm sure he feels more than a little bit Catalan. In these bleek times, something that's always lifted me is watching a youngster get a run in; sometimes you can just see that spark, but you hope it develops into a flame and pray that flame becomes a roaring fire. You never know who it could be that takes the club to its highest level.

Worst case scenario, we develop a talent, he leaves us but on relatively good terms to try his luck somewhere else: if he's worth it, we leave the door open, so if he does develop into a great talent, there will always be a tie with Liverpool for the future.

Youth is the way to go.

But Crewe can only offer us so much. This is a top tier team in Belgium, we could be getting some unknown Belgian starlets on the cheap.

It could prove to be a huge benefit to us. It can't hurt.

I can only see good coming from such an arrangement, For one it suits both clubs, two, You never know it could unearth future world stars, three, It cuts out alot of red tape And of course give potential players valuable experience of not only playing regularly but of European football into the bargain, Bring it on, it's a great idea.

IMO this should have been done many years ago...dont Arsenal have a similar arrangment with a Belgian/Dutch club? Look how many players have come through their roster from youth and been successful...

If we can send 2-3 players over there for a full season and give them first team experience, especially Spearing & Darby, they will be raring to get into the thick of our 1st team matches.

Friday is the cooperation between Genk and Liverpool officialised. Manager Dirk Degraen flew to the United Kingdom to sign the last papers. Liverpool as from now therefore can stall players, who are superfluous or have no work permit in United Kingdom , at Genk . The agreement is also sealed coming month with exibitiongame between Genk and a b-team of Liverpool, as reported in the newspaper Nieuwsblad.

Well, it seems the cooperation will already be coming to an end!

"Ik ben zwaar ontgoocheld in de manier van handelen van Roy Hodgson", zegt algemeen directeur Degraen van Genk in HBvL. "De samenwerking wordt voorlopig stopgezet. We krijgen geen spelers van hun. Na 1 september gaan we evalueren of we eventueel nog kunnen doorgaan."
      http://www.belgiumsoccer.be/nieuws/lees/2010-08-27/geen-jonkies-van-liverpool-naar-genk

      Translation:
"I am really disappointed in the way Roy Hodgson deals with this", says general director Degraen from Genk in HBvL. "The cooperation will temporarily be put on hold. We don't get any of their players. After 1 September we will evaluate and see if we can go through with this."

It also says that the deal was made when Rafa was in charge and that now the problem is that Roy does not want to loan out a couple of young players.

Id say the problem for Roy is that the players we would have sent on loan will now be required to fill the gaping holes in our first team squad.
