Maxi Rodriguez has revealed how conversations with Florent Sinama-Pongolle convinced him Liverpool was the place to be.

 
 The Argentina international arrived at Anfield from Atletico Madrid last week despite offers from other big clubs on the continent.

And Rodriguez has revealed how talking to two former Reds currently playing at Atletico helped convince him that Merseyside was the right destination.

"Having the connection with Fernando Torres and the fact Javier Mascherano was here obviously made the offer that bit more attractive but I also spoke with others," said Rodriguez in this week's LFC Weekly magazine.

"At Atletico, I spoke regularly with Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Luis Garcia, especially Sinama. I spoke to him a fair bit, right up to last month. He was saying what a marvellous club Liverpool is.

"He said it's a great institution and good to be a player on the books here. He told me some of the names of the great players who have passed through Liverpool over the years and across the board it is an excellent club.

"As a player I am excited by the prospect of enjoying the footballing culture of Liverpool. I can't wait."
