      Adam Federici (Reading)

Liverpool make shock offer for Reading goalkeeper

Reading keeper Adam Federici is agonising over a move to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Australian stopper is first choice at the Madejski Stadium but dad Tony has revealed his son's agent has been approached about a dream move to Anfield where he would be understudy Pepe Reina.

Tony also insisted son Adam "would be mad" not to accept the chance. Federici Snr, an estate agent in his homeland, said: "If I was advising him, in the big scheme of things, you'd have to be mad not to not to take it.

"I spoke to Adam and his agent has said he was aware that there had been some contact.

"There is some substance to it, but I don't know how keen Reading would be to let him go given he is their first-choice keeper.

"Adam has always wanted to play with one of the top four or five clubs. We'll all know more after Thursday."

Federici was part of the side that dramatically knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at Anfield last night.

Manager Benitez has been interested in signing Federici since the rising star's performance in the original tie against Liverpool, two weeks ago, which finished 1-1.

Federici became Reading's first-choice keeper at the start of the season and has 18 months left on his Royals contract. His Dad, however, admitted he faces a dilemma.

Federici snr went on: "To be part of such a big club would be a great opportunity, but he needs to play.

"Adam's main priority is to play regularly; if he plays the rest of the year for Reading he will have a full season as a No 1 under his belt.

"Reina is only 27, but if in six months or a year there was a first-choice spot, it would be a great move.

"It is an attractive move, but he would be going there as the back-up."

This really baffles me, with all due respect there are much better goalkeepers out there who are willing to sit on the bench and I don't think you can even put it down to the new EPL rules coming into place next season as I'm pretty sure he wasn't there young enough. Presuming it's true of course.

Agreed whats wrong with Cav?, he looks decent enough for 2nd choice, plus we have numerous others floating around liverpool at the moment, would be a stupid signing TBH

Would be a pretty pointless signing.

Unless Cavalieri really wants out - but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Could just be that Rafa wants to make a winger out of him. It would be cheaper than buying a real one.

Decent keeper but Aussie parents are notorious for creating sh*t out of nothing to help their kid. Kewell and Neill's parents did it.

Would be a needless signing, Cav is a good enough under-study to Pepe.

I actually think he will be a good signing, 24 years of age and impressive. United have VDS, Foster and that other guy whose name I can't spell.... Kuzcak or something...

No harm in having 2 reliable back up keepers. Not the most exciting name we are ever going to be linked with I agree but hey ho.

Wasn't that impressed he looked a bit shaky to me, why when we have F**k all money would we waste £2 million on this lad. I think it would be Rafa strangest signing ever.

Not sure we need another keeper really, I think Cavalieri does a good job as understudy.

There are bigger priorities than another keeper IMO

I reckon Federici would be a good signing. As long as we can get some cash if we sell Cavaleiri, we should be lucky to have Federici as a backup. Im Australian and I think he would be great. We should let Cavaleiri go. He did a shocking job against Reading. :angry-smiley-034: :throw: We should look for a loan until the end of the season, then sell him.

      Someone loves their smilies!
Cava is a perfectly good understudy and I think Gulácsi will be excellent in a season or 2. Martin's not bad either.

I saw Adam Federici play in the Beijing Olympics for the Olyroos, and he was impressive. If he's still playing that way, then i think he would be a good back up keeper.

I think that if this is true and we do end up buying federici then it will be becuase Cavaleiri will be sold. To be honest, Cavalieri is a decent keeper and after a few years on the bench he is probably desperate for 1st team football so fair play to the lad.

If we aren't selling Cavalieri then this is a pointless signing. With pepe, cavalieri and a few decent kids, why do we need to waste money on another keeper when we are des[erately short in other areas.

What he means that we should sell Cavalieri to a club he would start at.
