Bundesliga - FSV Frankfurt stage 'phantom goal' competition

German second division club FSV Frankfurt have looked on the bright side at a bizarre goal the referee awarded in their 5-0 loss to MSV Duisburg last week.

"Goal or no goal, now you can decide," Frankfurt said of their "phantom goal memorial" which urges fans to try their skills.

"Whoever manages to hit the bar from 18 metres with the ball bouncing away from the goal gets free entry to the match," the club said on their website.

Duisburg were awarded their fifth goal when Christian Tiffert beat the Frankfurt keeper with a chipped shot from 18 metres which hit the bar and bounced more than a metre away from the goal line. The linesman told the referee the ball was in.

Both teams' players and coaches were stunned to see the referee award the goal with television replays showing the ball was 1.3 metres away from the line and no players were blocking the view of the officials.

I hope Lee Mason does not see this or we are stuffed next time he refs for us. Every time the woodwork is hit we will have a goal given.

      But that was dreadful!

      That is appaling. Extremely bad.

      The referee/linesman should be embarrassed.

Just hope United don't have a shot hit the bar because if any English refs see this then it's obvious what will happen.

      Technology in football, huh?

A simple one and it still wasn't right.

I feel for the other team because decisions like this (and also the offside), can really have effect on one's morale and therefore change the season.

      Did I go overboard? :D

If the refs glasses are converse then its not a goal
If the refs glasses are inverse then its deffo a goal because light bends around inverse lenses, and vortex black holes.
If the ref is a tw*t that = goal, i think he's related to that ref we had the other day, he was also a tw*t with converse contact lenses.

Very smoothly done. Very smooth indeed.

I love the way the defenders all look like they've just been molested by a big fat topless guy wearing leather trousers.

Sorry Ross but you are wrong, they should be sacked and made to referee schoolkids playing football for the rest of the season.Just imagine if that goal decided the outcome of relegation or promotion, there would be hell to play..
