I dont even know how its even supposed to be considered legit. First, the Mayan civilization existed before the formation of any standardized, protocols for keeping time, ie Greenwich Mean Time, Time Zones,Geographic time zones, seasonal changes like "Daylight Savings Time" and before the use of Months,Weeks or Years. The Year 2012 or any numerical year, is a fictitious, arbitrary number which "Technically" means nothing.
One day they decided to keep track of the lunar and solar cycles and combined it with a cycle based on the farmers calendar and growing seasons for wheat and vegetables. Technically the year 2010 means absolutely nothing when it comes to a basis of the movement of the earth. 2010 is just the numbers of years that passed since they decided to start at year 0001 AD.
Experts cant even agree if the Mayan Calendar is even remotely close to our standard calendar. The "2012" Mayan Year could of been 1836 for all we know. It could be 2471. They have no way of knowing for sure or if its truly correct. The one things the Mayans could do which is amazing, was correctly track the eliptical rotation and axial rotation of the Earth and its corelation to the Sun. Which is why they considered the Sun a deity or God.
Other than that they had no way of predicting a Solar Flare or a Radiation spike. Which is supposedly how the Earth is going to end.
If a true solar storm hit us it may knock out power on certain grids and a large portion of society would not have power. But, that would not provide some country with a distinct Nuclear Missile advantage. All Nuclear facilities are grounded and shielded from EMP.Radiation and even Solar Flares. Secondly, they dont run on the same electrical grid as the populace. They have their own distinct power supplies for launch, tracking and for all functions associated with the firing and safeguards of a Missile. Now that may not be true in India or Pakistan. But it is true for Russian,American and European Nuclear powers.
