Had a terrible day today betting. Only winner was First Lieutenant at 13/2. :( The joys of betting!

Working in sport horses myself, still grandfather was a jockey and my mother worked in racing yards for years so I'm still big into racing! Great industry and a great sport.

Cheltenham next week should be good. Paddys day on Thursday as well so I'd say it will be serious craic there that day, especially if there's a good few Irish winners. The Champion Hurdle looks like it could be the best race of the week, some top class horses running in it this year.
Only just read your post mate.Hope you had a good Chelt.I was lucky enough to work the festival. The sound at the winners enclosure is truly awsome.Another lovely touch is how all the placed horses get a round of applause too.
Betting wise ,I actually broke even (for me a great result).
Off to the National soon (staying at one of me sisters in Aintree)can't wait.
Will be on the head on camera high up in the stands. So anyone thereabouts ,come and say hello.

I was at Rosehill for the day mate. Had Descarado beaten by Bossy on the line >:( Followed him on Aloha and Older than Time though paying 6s and 9s respectively. Had Elite Falls too. In the end broke even. Tough day though. Bossy got me back in the last on Older than Time. Had 20 on to pull be back $180 and back to what i started with for the day.

Few others at Morphetville i got on as well while at the TAB in the betting pavilion at Rosehill. Caplamp and Psychologist both $3s. Handy.

Few bets on today but none with great confidence. Probably State Grade in the first at Sandown i think.

Kentucky Derby tonight. Not usually interested in American racing but this along with the Breeders Cup, is one of the biggest races in the world.

Also Aidan O'Brien has an entry in it in Master of Hounds. A very good horse but it's his first time on dirt and the last time he ran in America was at the Breeders Cup Juvenile last year, and he was hardly impressive. Since then he came second in the UAE Derby in Dubai and is a bigger, stronger horse than in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Also race day medication is legal in American racing so he'll be on Lasix.

Paddy Power has him at 11/1 at the moment and I think he has a decent shot.

Kentucky Derby won by Animal Kingdom. Master of Hounds finished around the middle of the field, got caught in traffic. A field of 19 (would have been 20 but Uncle Mo was scratched) which is fairly big for a flat race.

Decent race anyway. Got to watch it for free on NBC's website. Handy since ATR didn't bother showing it!

So, the Derby tomorrow. We should have done a sweep but I didn't even know it was happening until today so never gave it a thought.
I've had a go on the sweep at work, got Recital, 9-2 second favourite.
      Anyone else had a go?

It's the favourite (Carlton House) but I was listening to John McCririck last night and he was urging people not to back it. He suggested that the bookies are cashing in on people who'll back it simply because it's the queen's horse, especially on the back of the royal wedding. He said if it was owned by anyone else, it wouldn't even run today because it's had problem after problem lately!
For what it's worth, his tip was Pour Moi.

Nah, can't be arsed, the only horse race I'll bet on is the National.

Had a laugh watching SSN then and someone from one of the bookies around Epsom was saying he didn't want the French horse (could well be Pour Moi) to win as he would hate to hear Vive La France being played while the Queen was there.

      C'mon the French horse!!

      Oh for fucks sake....

      http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/04062011/58/fallon-banned-riding-derby.html

Keiren Fallon's been barred from riding Recital (my horse in the sweep) today. The horse is still running but with a different jockey.

      Just my luck!!

So sad to see Rewilding break a leg when chalenging at Ascot Saturday. As trainer John Gosden put it "it was a freak accident".Thoughts go out to the connections including "the lad/lass that looked after him.

Was watching it the day after. Poor thing. A great horse, too.

A horse that beat So You Think a few years ago here also had the same thing happen to it.

I think the moral of the story is, beat So You Think and die.

I have been horse race betting for as long as I can remember and in the last 5 years I have finally cracked it (for me anyway). I have had an average profit of 1,000 quid a year (Jan to Jan) although this year I am on 620 quid (3 months to go). Anyone interested in winning money in the next month should follow the trainer G Prodromou (only on the flat), I have just had a 11/2 and yesterday an 8/1 and he has a few to come out still. Good luck everyone!  ;)
