      A Certain Fella's 75th Birthday Soon
      Feb 25, 2010 10:08:50 am
Mods I've put this on here feel free to move this to the right forum but would like to have a few views first.,

Some of you will have called into the HJC shop and met or talked to Gerry, he's always there, opens the shop at 10am every morning, the nicest fella you could meet, been great to people who come in just for a chat, cup of tea etc anyway I won't go on
The plan is to pay for a holiday for himself and his missus, Edna. Possibly Malta for his 75th birthday, he spends enough freezing cold days behind that counter acting as advisor, friend, counsellor, tea maker and all-round boss Red, so lets show him how much we appreciate his graft.

The thing is - keep it as quiet as possible as we don't want him to get wind of it. No tittle tattle in the shop neither. I don't think he comes on the net but a lot of people who know him do - so 'mums the word'.

We've about 3 weeks collecting if we want to surprise him at the HJC do. We still need a few more bob for his holiday so come on all, where would you be without this man, where would you put your banners and bags, its not a lot we're asking, just a donation.

The account is irishkop@live.com if anyone would like to make a donation, please make a reference saying the donation is for Gerry McIver when you make your donation, otherwise, they won't know what it's for. also If sending a donation via paypal send it as a gift, that way paypal will not take a small commission and all the donation will go into this fund.

      Thank you.  John

Just to add, he's a great poet also. his son in law threw this on

Great idea this as well as being a brilliant Father in law to me He is also a talented poet:

      Hillsborough
Of all 96, I knew not one name.
Yet the arguments go on, just the same.
How and why did 96 people die,
Leaving families to weep and cry ?

Their need for JUSTICE must not fail
Indeed it's become a Holy Grail.
The rest of the world must now be told
That 'hillsborough' as yet is only on hold.

Until at last the truth will have its day
Their families wil never go away.
Minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years
Through all the heartache and the tears

The people left behind will fight
Because that is their given right.
For the loved ones that they lost
Someone, somewhere has to count the cost,

The cost of lives cut down in their prime
Their memory remembered for all time
On that day someone was to blame
For the 96 who died at that game.

      'Hillsborough' will never go away,
Until someone or organisation is made to pay
For that terrible destruction of human life.
Nothing but JUSTICE will end the strife.

      Well in Murph!

I never knew Gerry was that old?!! He doesn't look it! Madness! Anyway, totally agree with you. One of the soundest fella's you'll ever meet and always very welcoming. And he definitely puts the graft in with the HJC Shop.

Too right he deserves a holidays somewhere warm as well. I've seen for myself him standing in the shop freezing cold.

Definitely worth a few bob towards his birthday.

What a nice idea, I'm sure Gerry will be completely gobsmacked by such a thoughtful surprise, I will be putting my share in.

Having met Gerry several times, he's a top fella, and like RedKenny said "Can't believe he's almost 75"  :o certainly doesn't look nowhere near that !!

Latest update from Irish kop, There is a total of €426 come into the pay pal account, I have a cheque donation of £20.00 from a Red mate plus £ 313.21 cash collected at Anfield, I think John Mackin has around £150.00 handed in at the City game. So that's £ 483.21, plus  €426

Threw in a few quid for the man. I don't know him at all but what a nice idea and gesture Murph.

At 75, the old man deserves a good holiday and deserves some donation for that poem alone.

      Have a good holiday Gerry.
