I think you need to remember the lad is a defender.  Maybe a more defensive minded player than Riise?

I was under the impression he's a right sided player.

Transfer gossip this morning has Kromkamp being sold to help raise funds for the Alves deal.

Might be a good deal but not as if were going to get alot for kromcamp now is it mate 1 maybe 2 million if were very lucky as he only came in as a swap deal for josemi and he wasn't worth jack .

I'll take a couple of million for him if we can get it. It all helps. If Rafa rates him that highly, why not? Don't forget we're bringing Gonzalez in too, he can play on either wing.

What i've seen of GONZALEZ he's going to be fantastic for us think he'll be needed more on the right as we've got ZENDEN and KEWELL on the left with riise as another option. ROLE ON NEXT SEASON.

So a month on from the start of this thread and Daniel Alves looks like he is on his way - but for how many million??

Is it just me or are we crazy to be spending that kind of money (£9 million ish) on a right back when Steve Finnan is there already.

'IF' we do sign him he'll be a good option for the right wing while we're searching for a world class winger then next season he'll be our right back as finnin will be 31.....

We can't spend £9 million on a good option.  We have Gonzalez, Garcia, Gerrard and Cisse (when and if he gets back) for the right wing - not to mention Kromkamp.

I just refuse to understand spending that kind of money on a right back.

Looks like they are not letting Chris Kirkland go on loan to Wigan, he's got monetary value- so maybe some more money for the spending fund
