      Q's Top 20 Frontmen
      Mar 26, 2010 06:34:47 pm
Q have released their readers poll of the greatest frontmen in music. Debatable I have to say. Robbie Williams is included in it, Tom Meighan is somehow in it after one half decent album from Kasabian while Oasis's Liam Gallagher tops the list.

      http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/7519708/Liam-Gallagher-crowned-best-frontman.html

Personally I can only go for Bono as the best frontman ever. When he's not being a part time diplomat we all know his natural position is performing in front of thousands alongside Edge, Adam and Larry! He's number 2.  There are some absolute classics in there, Mick Jagger, Morrissey, Freddy Mercury, Bruce Springsteen and Robert Plant - oh and of course Lennon and McCartney! My personal fave, Chris Martin is number 5. LUDICROUS I hear some of you say! Debatable - yes but I ain't complaining. A wonderfully up beat, Tigger like on stage persona he has, - especially if you've seen one of their Viva La Vida shows (where does he get the energy from??).

Coldplay - In My Place (Live Tokyo 2009) (High Quality video) (HQ)

What do you think of the list? And please feel free to post performances of your favourite front man.

p.s - Heck, even Noel deserves that place ahead of Liam.

HAHAHA. I'm a big Oasis fan, but Liam Gallagher is nowhere near the best frontman of all time, not even currently the best, nor the best from England, maybe from Manchester. Probably not, a lot of great bands come from Manchester.

      Absolute joke.

I love Oasis (well I love Noel Gallagher to be precise) but Liam Gallagher is nothing these days. Plus all he does is stand there. It just epitomised Oasis's laziness.

Who in the name of F**k votes in these polls?  Liam Gallagher at number one - sure all that c**t ever done was waddle up to the mic and whine. Chris Martin on the list, never-mind at number five; the man is Mogadon in human form, for F**k sake.

If i had to pick a top three (from the list) it would be Bono or Jagger closely followed by Mercury - even if you can't stand the music there can be no denying they are/were 'proper front men.

I'll indulge myself with my favourite - Joe Strummer

The Pogues and Joe Strummer - London Calling
The Clash - I Fought The Law

Liam Gallagher is an incredible tool. But he is a great frontman.

Chris Martin would be number 1 for me aswell. Writes all of Coldplay's music, can play guitar, piano like a genius, and he just looks like a complete natural. For example in that video^

I think he's grown in confidence on the Viva tour. I can never understand when anyone says they can't stand him, he's such a nice likeable fella.

How on Earth is Liam Gallagher a great frontman?

I've been to 2 Oasis concerts (one in 2001, the other last year) and he didnt even move 2 steps from his initial position in both occasions.

As I said before, I love Oasis and I like his voice (far from being the best vocalist around too), but he doesnt offer anything else, apart from controversy by saying big headed sh*t on the press. Not even writing songs.

He's a very modest, polite man just like the other three members. Music isn't just about big headed outspoken tw*ts who sniff cocaine of a strippers back. Coldplay aren't going to do stupid things that affect what they love doing best and that's making music.

It's music - that's what it is at the end of the day!

I couldnt disagree more. Radiohead are one of the most creative bands of the last 20 years and only the album Ok Computer is at least ten times better than anything Coldplay could ever do. If you mean in terms of popularity, maybe, but I'm still not sure.

The bands are in totally different musical standards, and while Coldplay are only a continuation of something they didnt start (Travis is 7 years older!), Radiohead changed rock and influenced many new bands.

IMO Matt Bellamy deserves to be in there....he is a brilliant frontman and the variety of songs that Muse belt out makes them my personal favourites over the last 10-15 years.

Whereas Liam Gallagher can f**k right off, number 1?? Where are the likes of Ian Brown, Morrisey, and half of the above that have been quoted...

The best of the best currently kicking it - in my opinion are: Jake Black AKA The Very Reverend Dr. D. Wayne Love and  Rob Spragg AKA Larry Love from Alabama 3.

Freddie Mercury is THE best frontman for sure . Just watch the way he had the whole crowd in the palm of his hand during the original LiveAid concert .
Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden not on there at all . Ya gotta be havin a laugh . When you see Maiden live and Bruce is wavin around the Union Jack at the start of The Trooper , you'll see how good he is . Strong voice and the way he interacts with the crowd is awesome to behold .

To be honest I dont listen much of Morrissey solo career either (I prefer The Smiths too), but I love watching live performances on youtube and this is one of my favorites. Moz is pure class.
