No massive updates for the moment, since we've been mainly giving the bedrooms a second coat of paint, and the difference doesn't show up massively on photos, but more to the naked eye.

Biggest news is that we actually have running water, so we can use the toilets (at last! :D) and clean the brushes and stuff on-site.

As well as that, and what was delaying us the most, is the electricity. However, after some stalling from the electricity board, they have finally agreed to plug us in on December 3rd. I can't tell you what a relief it is to have a date set!

After that, they should change the locks on the house and we will have a final, definitive key, at which point we'll be able to buy and install the kitchen! I can't wait for it! :D

Here's a few piccys anyway to keep the thread ticking over.

Parent's room (we're planning on putting a big sticker on the chocolate coloured wall, I'll whack up and example at some point):

Mucking about in the boy's rooms:

And a couple of alternative shots of that great wallpaper:

      Cheers!

Yeah, the kids have seen their rooms, they can't wait to move into them!

It's been difficult, but I really think we're managing to make the most of the relatively little money we have to make this our dream house.

In an ideal world, we'd have liked bigger bedrooms, living room, kitchen, garden... the list is endless. But for a modest budget we're very, very happy.

For example, I think the wallpaper for the kids room's was £40 per room, but the effect when it's on the wall is priceless!

      No, it's my room! :D

It's just with all the kids room's, I've got into the habit of calling it the parent's room.

A few pictures now that the majority of the work is finished.

Still have the garden to do, and tiling in the kitchen and terrace.

We're well pleased, but I'm glad the work is coming to an end, couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel for a while, I must admit.

The neighbourhood is calm, the kids have settled really well into their new schools and have made friends.

And now the spring is coming on, which will mean barbecues in the evening with chilled drinks! :D

Aww, glad to hear it. Especially happy for the kids. Is it far from where you lived before? Far enough, I suppose, that the kids are in a new school and have new friends.

I'll keep an eye on my mailbox for when you send out invites for the big bbq. ;)

We're only a few miles away from where we were before, but the quality of life is so different.

We were in flats in a dodgy area before, third floor, no lift, drug dealers, etc. There were obviously far worse areas to be than that, but it wasn't where I wanted to raise my kids, that's for sure. Now we have a very big mortgage on our backs, but it's worth it.

An idea of what life was like "before":

And for the BBQ, house warming is in a week, if you can make it on short notice! ;)

f***in' hell! Did someone light those cars up? Nah, F**k that.

I know what you mean about not wanting to live in a dodgy area with the kids growing up. Last year we moved from the neighborhood we'd lived in for nine years for that same reason. There was always trouble on my block. We even had a couple of cops executed and dumped on our corner. Scary sh*t. And stuff no child should be aware of. Very happy for you and your family. The better quality of life will benefit all of you.

Sorry, can't make it. Plane tickets are just too highly priced for such short notice. I'll catch the next one. ;)
