Bring back John Arne Riise. Should never have left.

      He was past it mate.
In his prime i absolutely loved him and to be honest if we'd had him this season maybe we wouldn't have had so many problems at Left back, but his best days are certainly behind him. Same story as Steve Finnan. He WAS a  great player.

The way it is nowadays, any of the top targets like Villa, Silva, Eto'o, Aguero etc. You just can't get them unless you pay about £20-30M.

That all depends on how much money we're allowed to spend. If it's the same as the last 2 seasons, we'd have to sell quite a few fringe players just to buy one class player like the ones named above.
If we're given enough to splash, I think we need another class striker, A good safe left back, and another right back.

If Glen Johnson can learn how to defend properly we won't need him replacing, but still we'll need cover for him since he's rather prone to the odd injury or two.

I don't watch enough european football to know what strikers look like they'd be able to score in the premiership.
Everytime i've watched Lahm play for Bayern he's looked class. I'd love him to sign. Someone mentioned Joe Cole could go on a free? Wouldn't mind him either.
As for a striker, i think we'd need someone who's proven in the premiership since anyone from la liga, serie A etc who would be an obvious success, would also have an obviously huge price tag.
I think Darren Bent would be a great signing. He's a great poacher and that'll get you goals no matter who he's playing for. Some strikers who play for lower league clubs and score 20 a season can only do it because they're the main man at that team e.g. Robbie Keane. But Bent is such a natural goalscorer, i reckon he'd be a boss buy and he wouldn't cost you a bomb.

Still unsure on a right back.

You're right about Bent. Forgotten about him at the back of my head!

He's shown that he's able to score goals in the league. Be it for Charlton, Spurs or Sunderland, he's a well proven Premier League forward.

      1. Left Back
Don't have anyone in mind to be honest. Looks like Gareth Bale fits in.

as much as i'd love to see Bale here, Bale wouldnt give up the chance of champions league, and Spurs dont need to sell anyone. also, its unlikely we'll have enough money to spend 10 million on a left back.

Aurelio - £1-3m  Too old and our last chance to get some £££ for him maybe

isnt he out of contract in the summer so we'll get nothing for him.

Would love to see that Cissokho or Bastos from lyon, but again i cant see why they'd give up champions league football.

Bale's only just signed a new contract at Spurs (or is about to).

      No chance we'll sign him.

Surely Bent will want to play for a top side soon. Charlton, Spurs, Sunderland.
Yes i know spurs are in the champions league next season but when i say top side i mean, one with history, one that makes you pinch yourself when you pull on the shirt.

Benzema won't be coming to Liverpool. I think that much is guaranteed.

Too much demand for an outright transfer and the prospect of loaning him out is slim.

I wanted Bent in the off season and labelled him signing of the summer at 10m before the season started. He is a proven goal scorer wherever he goes. Not the best footballer but a damn fine goal scorer.

I think our options are slim. A mid table Spanish side maybe because their players are cheaper and usually better technically.

Llorente would be one i would like to see (from Atletic Bilbao).

      Left back Lahm 10 million
      Left Wing Turan 15 million
      Central Midfield/winger Joe Cole free
      Striker/winger Jovanovich free
Central Midfielder Javier Martinez 15 million
      winger Pedersen Blackburn free
      winger Petrov Man City free

      40 million spent.
Sell Babel and Riera for 16 million
6.5 million from Doss and Voro
sell Mikel San Jose 3.5 million to Bilbao
      sell Lucas 10 million
      sell Cavalieri for 2.5 million
      sell Plessis for 1.5 million

      Thats 40 million.

                                         Reina

      Johnson             Carra           Agger          Lahm

                                Gerrard        Masch

      Maxi                             Aquilani                 Turan

                                           Torres

Gulacsi as Cav will probs move on
Insua as Aurelio will probably move on
      Skrtel
      Joe Cole
      Martinez
      Jovanovich/Petrov/Pedersen
      Kuyt

Then if there is a transfer budget try and add some strength in depth, decent strong right back etc.

Lahm is worth way more to Bayern than £10m and Joe Cole's sign on free will be very high thus rendering the term 'free' insignificant. While carrying a lower sign on fee, Petrov and Pedersen would be the same.

This could make our net spend in the end in excess of £15m.

I like where your going but as I said, depends on the sign on fees and then of course the wage bill which in our case cannot handle multiple high money earners.

In a way we could free some wages up by promoting the likes of Kelly to cover for right back, Ayala to cover for center back and get the likes of Degen and Soto off the wage bill, guess it all depends on how much faith Rafa will have in teh youth he's brought to the club.

You lot must think we have endless pots of gold.

Bale for £10 million? I think not, more like £16 million (young, homegrown, full international, Premiership experience)

Bent would cost £20 million (Sunderland bought him for around £15million and he ave a solid goal return in a poor team, England International, could perform at the world cup)

Milner would cost loads, £30million (Man City have been linked at £24 million, we'd have to top that).

Lahm would cost somewhere between £10 to £20 million (if Bayern win the league and Germany perform at the World Cup expect this to go up).

Adam Johnson would probably not leave Man City (even if he did they would look to double the £7 million they paid for him. Plus he finished the season as their best player alongside Tevez).

Aaron Lennon £20million (full england international, experienced PL player. Could perform at the world cup).

I think we would have to be shrewd.

Anelka is out of contract in Summer. Martin Petrov is excess at Man City as is Craig Bellamy.
Pedersen has been mentioned, what about the likes of Altidore who looked good in poor teams, playing alongside quality in the Prem.

I watch Cardiff week in week out, Whittingham and McCormack are quality players who would like moves if the playoffs fall through.

We have no money to spend, the Yanks will pocket anything we make, so we need to be shrewd.

bale? really? not as a left back. very poor positionally. got caught out time and time again against united.
dont get me wrong would love him as a winger but dont think he is good enough as a left back.
