      Hull City v Liverpool - Pre-match Thread
      May 03, 2010 11:35:55 pm
Well with Europa League football secured next year and nothing to play for, does anyone else think that we should give the young lads a shift along with some experienced players?

Obviously Hull are relegated and we don't want to make yet another cock up of a game by getting beat, but this could be a good chance to mix in some young talent that we have with first team football.

Your opinions and a line up.....

      Don't know really.

We should still try and get 6th - a Villa draw or loss could mean we get there if we win our game.

Would be good to put out a team of youth though. I'm sure they'd give Hull a run for their money.

Let Rafa take time off along with the first team and unleash Rodolfos finest. Eh maybe not but would like to see some promising youngsters given a run. The key word being promising. Unless their are potential buyers in the stand I dont want to see El Zhar or Degen ever put the jersey on again. So realistically Ayala, Pacheco and Ngog would be the extent of it but I wouldnt mind if Ince got a run to show him he has a future here

Any team is fine with me as long as Reina is in goals to collect the Pepe Reina trophy, er I mean, golden gloves.  Would love to see Pacheco start or at least play a solid 45 minutes.

I see no harm at all in putting the young ones out. There gone we are only going for 6th. Get Pacheco, Ayala, Amoo out there. Only 1st team reqular id go with and captain for the day Reina

Other then that it could be last game for 1 or 2 people

      Reina (c)

      Johnson Ayala Agger Insua

      Lucas

      Maxi Pacheco Aquilani Benayoun

      Ngog

Maybe give another young striker a start inhead of Ngog, but lets just hammer Hull 6-0 again for something to be happy about.

One reason to win is to hopefully get ahead of Villa so we don't have to play a Qualifier in the Europa next season. 7th means we could potentially play CSKA in the 3rd Qualifier of the Competition, not a easy game at all.

I worried about not finishing 6th, due to early qualifiers, our players are going to be knacked after the WC so an even shorter pre season will do us no favours. Would like to see a regular spine, with Agger or Cara alongside Ayala for example.

But even with a 50/50 mix i still think we will dick on Hull, or i might actually cry!

I've predicted a nice and easy 10-0 win for us.

Got nothing to lose so might as well just give it our best and end this horrible season on a memorable performance.

Would love to see some of the youngsters play as well.

Need to win this convincingly. Hull are relegated and we cannot aford, to be seen to be on a similar level to a team in this position. 4 - 0 will be the minimum requirement. If only to convince the media, we are not a spent force, and this episode is just a minor blip. :kop5cf8koxp6:

      Very true

All Europa League teams have to 'qualify' for the tournament. Man City will enter at the 4th qualifying round in the middle of August alongside the team that finishes 6th.

If we finish 7th we have to enter at the 3rd qualifying round, and based on this season - that starts at the end of July.

I'd say there is quite a bit riding on how the results go at the weekend.

We need to win this badly and hope Aston Villa fail to beat Blackburn Rovers. If not, we start our 2010/2011 season earlier.

Great point. If anyone on here thinks there is nothing to play for, think again. Personally I want to finish as high as we possibaly can just for the sake of it - and this just adds to it. An early start next season is the last thing we need in a World Cup year.

Lets face it win lose or draw isn't going to change the season but no matter the circumstance we should be trying to win every game, and its Hull so id still be expecting a win regardless of how it matters or not

Tell me about it , I really hope Blackburn manage to pull a result form Villa . I really do NOT want out season to start early . Our players ( especially Torres ) get a proper rest .

With all the crap about finances, debt and the continued media assault just thought I would remind people we have a match tomorrow.

Found this little gem in a Tony Barratt article.

Benítez will name Jack Robinson as a substitute for Liverpool’s trip to Hull City tomorrow. Should the 16-year-old left back make his debut, he will be the youngest player to represent the club, beating the record held by Michael Owen.

More signs of desperation or a positive sign that Rafa is willing to give youth a chance.

Aston Villa have an advantage because they play Blackburn at Villa Park I think. At least we're facing an already regelated Hull City and there's no excuse not to win in

                                          Reina

      Mascherano           Carra                Kyrgiakos           Agger

      Benayoun              Lucas                Gerrard              Babel

                                           Aquilani

                                              Kuyt

Johnson is a doubt, isn't he?

Another formation is where Carra goes to RB, Ayala comes into partner Sotis. And if that happens, we all know Rafa will play Lucas and Masch with Gerrard in front of them and Aquilani on the bench

Though I would like to see youngsters start the game but I think it's important we are in a comfortable position, then we'll bring the likes of Pacheco on.

Carra and Maxi also doubtful.  As for youngsters, Jack Robinson, 16 year old left back is supposedly going to be on the bench so I guess Ayala and Pacheco have a chance of starting with the injuries.

Oh yeah, thanks  forgotten that Maxi and Carra were taken off due to injuries against Chelsea.

I guess we'll be seeing our defence line :

If we are to start our pre-season games in July ,as we may do , then we must not risk any injuries in the final game of the season ,we don't have anything to gain against a side already relegated ,and i just feel a damaged player would start our next season off on a downer ,so for me i'd play a squad team giving the young players a chance to shine.

Back to the football thank Christ there is a game left to get me away from all this madness, I haven't a clue who Rafa will play we still have injury's to Maxi(his turn), Torres, Insua, Kelly, Skrtel, Johnson, although it isn't has big as it was we should still be able to put a team out(just). TEAM = Reina, Mascha, Carra, Sotis, Agger Lucas, Gerrard, Kuyt, Babel, Aqalini, NGog.

Can't help feeling a little bit flat for this last game of the season, all seems to have come to the end and like .....nothing  :( so very different to last season.

Anyway, we can't do anything about that now, so we've just got to get on with it, I'd kinda like to see a blend of experience and youth for the final game.

Would love to see some of the young lads get a chance for a run out and show Rafa what they can do, would love to see us finish the season on a high though and go out with a victory.

Good luck to whoever plays and here's to the three points in the bag.

One reason to win is to hopefully get ahead of Villa so we don't have to play a Qualifier in the Europa next season. 7th means we could potentially play CSKA in the 3rd Qualifier of the Competition, not a easy game at all.

Not to say embaressing too. We shouldn't even be in this situation. Still, beggars can't be chosers. Think they will go for this. Shame really, i'd like to see a few of the younger lads given a shot.

It feels weird knowing that in approximately 8 hours, this miserable season is going to come to and end and we might not be seeing the lads wear the Red kit until August.

Gonna miss the lads, so hopefully they give us some happiness tonight to end the season off.

Also hoping, know matter who plays that they go and give the travelling supporters a nice, fitting send off. Those fans who have travelled to the away games all season haven't had much to be happy out on their travels, so with any luck our boys can stick a fair few goals in the back of the net down the end where our supporters will be.

      Maxi out of Tigers trip

      8th May 2010 - Latest News

Rafael Benitez has confirmed Liverpool will be without the services of Maxi Rodriguez for Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash at Hull City - but Jamie Carragher is fit to face the Tigers.

The duo both sustained knocks during last weekend's Anfield encounter against Chelsea, with Carragher twisting his ankle and Maxi picking up an adductor injury.

Both players were rated as doubtful for the trip to the KC Stadium, but Benitez has revealed Carragher will be able to take on Iain Dowie's side.

"Carra is okay, he is fine. I think he can play - we will see today in the last training session," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Maxi cannot play because he has a problem in his adductor."

The Reds will bring the curtain down on a mixed 2009-10 away to the Tigers, with sixth place the best possible finish they can achieve on the final day.

However, Benitez insists Liverpool are determined to end the season with a win - particularly as overhauling Aston Villa into the top six will ensure they do not have to contest an early season Europa League qualifier.

"It's always important to win. We know we have to improve away and this is an opportunity to do that, so we will try to finish as well as possible," said the gaffer.

"For us it is an opportunity to do a little bit better, be in a better position and avoid a Europa League qualifier.

"Hopefully the players will have the same mentality and vision, and we can push together."

Three points in Yorkshire would represent only Liverpool's sixth away win of the season in the Barclays Premier League.

It's a statistic Benitez believes hindered the Reds' charge for Champions League football and one he is all to aware must change in 2010-11.

"I am sure it (away form) has been a big problem," he said. "I have checked the statistics from last season and they were really good. This year, we could not improve away, so it has been a big difference.

"Away we have not been the best, so for our fans that go away and support the team all the time, we have to do well at Hull.

"I was really pleased in the last away game with Burnley when we scored four goals, played well - hopefully we can do the same again."

Reflecting on the season as a whole, the manager added: "I think it is a disappointing season for everyone here. The expectations were really high but we started the season with problems and defeats. We lost the confidence you need when you want to fight to be at the top of the table all of the time."

While Liverpool's final position in the table is still to be determined, Hull's fate has already been sealed as Monday's 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic condemned them to life in the Championship next term.

Benitez, though, has nothing but admiration for Dowie's attempts to keep the Tigers in the top flight after taking over from Phil Brown in March.

He said: "For a manager to be in this position is not easy. When the team is in a difficult situation then you have to manage and improve a lot of things. But you don't have too much time, so to be fair, it was so difficult that you can't say too much. He has just tried to do his best."

Meanwhile, Benitez admitted he could be tempted to hand Spanish prodigy Dani Pacheco his first Liverpool start at Hull.

The forward has made six substitute appearances for the first team so far this season having excelled in the Reserves.

"We will have to check on our players, but Dani is doing well and could be an option," said Benitez.

"To train alongside players like Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt will improve him a lot - and he has improved a lot already - so we will see.

"He has quality and he has to keep the same commitment and working hard because when you have talent, it is easier to play well if you work hard."

Glad when this game will be over. This has been one of the worst seasons I can remember, and I can remember alot. Even in pre-season I was worried. As for todays game, well it's a dead duck really, Hull are religated, and we may get 6th (wow!) but I doubt it.

If we win I will de pleased, but if not it will be no shock.
Good bye 2009/10  I will remember you with distaste.

Maxi Rodriguez is ruled out for the final game while Jamie Carragher is fit enough to face Hull City.

Still a lot to play for - 6th place to avoid having start the season in July and clean sheet will give Pepe Reina the most shut out in the league and the prestigious Golden Glove award, his fourth in five seasons.

Pepe Reina the most shut out in the league and the prestigious Golden Glove award, his fourth in five seasons.

Unbelievable that. Hope he gets it.

Benítez will name Jack Robinson as a substitute for Liverpool’s trip to Hull City .Should the 16-year-old left back make his debut, he will be the youngest player to represent the club, beating the record held by Michael Owen

Still a lot to play for - 6th place to avoid having start the season in July and clean sheet will give Pepe Reina the most shut out in the league and the prestigious Golden Glove award, his fourth in five seasons.

That is incredible given our leaky defence.  Come on Pepe!  You can do it, you certainly deserve it.

Really?  He's a decent player from what I've seen.  Good luck to him!

Robinson is a left back isn't he?
      Hope he will play.

Interesting fact, at the begining of the season we were part of the "Big Four", but we are the only one who is away today, and the Scum and Rent boys are a home on the first day and last day of the season.. just a paranoid fact.

Maxi Rodriguez is ruled out for the final game while Jamie Carragher is fit enough to face Hull City.

I shudder to think where we would be if Pepe wasn't here, nice clean sheet today would be great for him.
