      World Cup Squads

      Torres in squad, winger omitted
      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/torres-in-squad-winger-omitted

Fernando Torres has been included in Spain's 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.

Torres is currently recovering from knee surgery which Liverpool last week confirmed may keep him out of Spain's opener against Switzerland on June 16.

Pepe Reina joins him in the initial squad alongside former Reds Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa. However, Albert Riera misses out.

Manager Vicente Del Bosque will whittle his pack down to 23 names by June 1 ahead of Group H games against Chile, Honduras and Switzerland.

      Squad:

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Jose Reina (Liverpool), Diego Lopez (Villarreal), David De Gea (Atletico Madrid), Victor Valdes (Barcelona).

Defenders: Raul Albiol, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa (all Real Madrid), Joan Capdevila (Villarreal), Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol (both Barcelona), Carlos Marchena (Valencia), Cesar Azpilicueta (Osasuna).

Midfielders: Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta (all Barcelona), Marcos Senna (Villarreal), Javier Martinez (Athletic Bilbao), David Silva (Valencia).

Forwards: Daniel Guiza (Fenerbahce), Juan Manuel Mata, David Silva, David Villa (Valencia), Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas (both Sevilla), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), Santiago Cazorla (Villarreal), Pedro Rodriguez (Barcelona), Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao).

Can't say I'm not surprised that Torres, Reina included and Riera not included. Gutted Bojan's not in the 30-man squad at least :( Would have made the 1990 kids proud

Just reading this article makes my eyes go  :o with the abundance of quality this squad possesses.

And why is David Silva's name mentioned twice?

      Unbelievable squad isn't it.

Why so many goalkeepers though? Absolutely pointless.

I like that most of their players are playing in Spain, save for Torres, Pep, Cesc, and Guiza. Shows how strong that league is. So much depth in this squad.

It's quite unbelievable that Victor Valdes has never made an appearance for Spain. What chance does he have anyway with Pepe his competition?

Hope they win the World Cup. I get exceptionally afraid of their midfield.

30-man preliminary squad mate, I'd say when they cut it down it'll just be Casilles, Valdes and Reina.

Bloody quality that though. They are my team for the tournament, besides the Aussies. Knowing the Aussies won't win, I'm hoping Spain win it.

It's actually almost expected, the 23 men squad.

I think the 7 cut off would be - Martinez, Valdes, De Gea, Azpilicueta, Navas, Negredo and Pedro.

I would think Valdes would be 3rd choice behind Casillas and Reina but he never gets called up.

At least you guys have your nations in the World Cup .... The day Malaysia enters the World Cup is when the host it. Then again, Malaysia is too small to host it.

Dunga will announce the Brazilian team tomorrow. I can't wait.

Here goes a few others (please note that most of them are only provisional squads, with more than 23 players):

      Germany
Goalkeepers: Hans-Jorg Butt (FC Bayern), Manuel Neuer (Schalke 04) e Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen)

Defenders: Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen), Heiko Westerman (Schalke 04), Philip Lahm (FC Bayern), Jerome Boateng (Hamburg), Andreas Beck (Hoffenheim), Arne Friedrich (Hertha Berlim), Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart), Marcell Jansen (Hamburg), Holger Badstuber (FC Bayern) e Dennis Aogo (Hamburg)

Midfielders: Michael Ballack (Chelsea), Sami Khedira (Stuttgart), Piotr Trochowski (Hamburgo, Marko Marin (Werder Bremen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern), Christian Trasch (Stuttgart), Mesut Ozil (Werder Bremen) e Toni Kroos (Bayer Leverkusen)

Forwards: Lukas Podolski (Koln), Miroslav Klose (FC Bayern), Stefan Kiessling (Bayer Leverkusen), Cacau (Stuttgart), Thomas Muller (FC Bayern) e Mario Gomez (FC Bayern)

      Uruguay
ARQUEROS: Fernando Muslera (Lazio, Italia), Juan Castillo (Deportivo Cali, Colombia), Martín Silva (Defensor Sporting).

DEFENSORES: Diego Lugano (Fenerbahce, Turquía), Diego Godín (Villarreal, España), Andrés Scotti (Colo Colo, Chile), Jorge Fucile (Porto, Portugal), Martín Cáceres (Juventus, Italia), Mauricio Victorino (Universidad de Chile), Maximiliano Pereira (Benfica, Portugal).

DELANTEROS: Luis Suárez (Ajax, Holanda), Diego Forlán (Atlético Madrid, España), Sebastián Abreu (Botafogo, Brasil), Edinson Cavani (Palermo, Italia), Jorge Martínez (Catania, Italia), Sebastián Fernández (Banfield, Argentina).

      Portugal

Médios: Pedro Mendes (Sporting), Tiago (At. Madrid), Deco (Chelsea), Raul Meireles (FC Porto) e Miguel Veloso (Sporting).

Avançados: Simão (At. Madrid), Danny (Zenit), Liedson (Sporting), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Nani (Manchester United) e Hugo Almeida (Werder Bremen).
