I know he was. But still, he's Turkish. He took Turkey's religion (please don't let this be the start of a religious debate!) but played for Germany's team :D

I won't mind missing out on him if his price rises above 15m.

      He was born in Germany!
Even though he doesn't look like one, have a name like one, or play like one.

But is of Turkish descent as there is a massive Turkish population in Germany. It would be interesting if he wasn't rated as he was whether he would be in the German team.

One of the best players at the World Cup, but there is as much chance of me pulling Abby Clancey as there is of Ozil ending up at Anfield.

His contract expires next summer, and it doesn't look like that he wants to sign a new one with Werder Bremen. Ferguson is waiting for the next season to sign him on a free, but there are reports that Barca are going in for him now for about 8 million, and I'm sure that Werder would preffer to get at least some money for him, rather than just let him go on a free.

He's a good player, but very inconsistent. Sometimes it feels like Werder is playing with 10 men. I think that he's a bit too soft for the Prem league and he lacks the determination to play as good as he can.

Even though he took the piss out of 11 Premiership players when they played us?

I'm sorry to whoever likes this thread or whoever made it but it is a pretty dumb thread. We will never get him. He is a Bundesliga record signing and only joined a year ago.

Sorry but it just won't happen.

His contract expires next summer, available on a pre-contract deal in January.  No so far fetched after all.

I don't think he is going to do to well with Madrid. He will just ride the bench like a lot of there signings. I think he is a decent player whose stock went way up with the World Cup, but I think he will be right along with Van Der Vart, Nistelrooy, etc... This is just my opinion though, I hope he does well.

Indeed he has signed for Real Madrid pending a medical as announced on their official website:

      http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/en/1330010084519/noticia/Noticia/Mesut_Ozil_to_play_for_Real_Madrid.htm

I think the mods can lock this one.

Have to agree.... I think he has bags of talent, but he will find it hard to break into the first team and get match time.  Sadly, I believe he will be another victim of Madrid's overspending.  Anyway, now that this is confirmed, can this be locked?

I agree he's made a bad choice there like so many others do, even more wasted talent in the squad now, to be honest it would have made more sense for him to go to Man United since there's actually a place in the team for him although I'm glad he didn't join them from our point of view.

Kaka will be out at least 3-4 months, that's why Ozil was bought.

If he had remain at Bremen, he's sure to get games regularly. Probably would get some at Madrid but he may just be another victim of their overspending.

      So...
      Casillas
      Sergio Ramos   Pepe   Carvalho   Marcelo/Arbeloa
And after this i have no clue how they will play :P
Lass, M.Diarra & Khedira fighting for a possible holding role, oh and Gago, AND Alonso!
Kaka, De la Red, Van Der Vaart & now Ozil for an attacking midfield role
Then Ozil again fighting with Di Maria, Ronaldo & Drenthe for the wings
Benzema, Higuain, and is it Granero up front?

      Good luck Mesut :P

Ozil isn't bought for on the wing jonty, he isn't a winger really. Besides, they already bought Pedro Leon for on the wing too. Kaka is injured for the next 3-4 months, De La Red has been out for more than a season now with some mysterious condition. So that only leaves VDV to compete with him for his position right now.

So KaKa is out for a couple of months and they sign this lad. What happens when Kaka is fit again. Think this is a really bad move for Ozil at a young age.
