I know that a lot of the commentators here in the States on ESPN think that the Dutch could go far and have a shot of winning it.  I didn't know they were that good.  I always hear about Brazil,England,Spain Argentina,Italy but a lot of people like the Dutch to win it all.

It's because of our creative midfielders and forwards. It's safe to say that if they're all fit and injuryfree then we have a world class midfield and forward line. Especially when you consider the current form of players like Sneijder, Robben, van Persie and van Bommel. I think we, the dutch, are seen as outsiders, we usually are. It's not so much that we're always good, but if we are good we're usually really good. We can win against everybody, and if we're lucky and the stars align we have a slight chance to go all the way. I think most will agree that our team showed what we're capable of at Euro 2008, if things fall in place. But we have a weak defense. And our football philosophy limits our chances. We always try to play attractive dominant attacking football, but that isn't always the safest and most effective way to play. I think however that our current manager van Marwijk does a much better job than van Basten did. There seems to be more peace and chemistry in our team.

I thought Heskey did well last night. At least more than his strike partner. Set up the goal and won alot of high balls. Got caught offside alot, though.

The Liverpool lads did really well, IMO.

I don't get it. When I purely look at the players and their qualities, England should be a top team, one of the favourites in my opinion. But as a team, it's almost like the whole is lesser than the sum of it's parts. Am I wrong here, what am I missing? It seems to have been like that for a while now.

Qualifiers we were magnificent, friendlies we were too, mostly.

It's nerves. Once we settle, and start scoring goals, we'll look like a white machine again.

      Top european scorers, remember.

And I can't deny that this result pissed me right off. We should be beating the USA comfortably and we didn't. Goals change games, we didn't take our chances. It's really THAT simple.

Liverpool have been in this position before and come through it, and so can England.

      '66 - first match:

Draw with URUGUAY, of all teams. They were as sh*te then as they are now, too.

I'm sure we can reach the semis. I'll be ecstatic with the semis.

This is the first time Ive actually felt depressed after a bad England result since Brazil in 2002. I felt no hatred towards Rooney either...I still hated Lampard though. Useless fat F**k can't even score penalties.

Noticed in the 2nd half Gerrard was a lot deeper with Lampard more attacking. I dont get that, considering how well Gerrard and Rooney link up. No more SWP as well please. Never know someone be so persistant at trying to take a man on despite failing to do so every time.

This, England team can never win a world-cup.

      Attack is fu**ed up.
      Midfield is fu**ed up.
      Defense is fu**ed up.
Goal-Keepers have always been fu**ed up since Banks and Shilton have retired.

There is no difference between Cappello's England and either Sven's or Mclaren's

And WTF is Beckham doing on the bench.

I hate to sound like Fergie, but "typical Americans" (I realise that I'm just exercising a stereotype). They get one freak goal and suddenly the world is their oyster.

I don't think the USA deserved anything from that game, they were clinging on in the last ten minutes as England went through the gears.

And WTF is Beckham doing on the bench.

Just, you know, casually rehabilitating his injury.

The US were happy with the draw and ultimately their performance simple as, they played for time in the last 10 minutes and that says it all.
England continued to annoy pressing forward but a toothless tiger can do only that-annoy. There is no killer blow and while lesser teams will initially stand off them with misplaced reverence an efficient organised squad would dismantle them.
Capello has got to be on some good gear or he's trying to give an image of a coach who is mortally shocked by a team who are capable of stunning performances yet totally against all expectations put in a dour, spiritless, uninspired appearance??? Like it's nothing to do with him and he's worth the millions cos he looks as though he's as pissed off as we are with the nonesense...not quite he is supposed to have the ability to improve and inspire and not fall into the mould of previous England managers and their mystifying tactics and selections.
