Carra: Fans have right to boo

"I feel the supporters in the stadium were perfectly entitled to boo the team," said Carragher. "I've never had a problem with that.

"I've always said fans should support during the game but, at the end, they're right to let us know when they're not happy.

"It's not as if they've only travelled around the corner to watch us.

"We're on the other side of the world and they've paid a lot of money and made a lot of effort to come and see us do well.

"We need to give them something to cheer about.

"I think we have to applaud the fans for the support they've given us and make sure we're here a lot longer."

"We know there will be a lot of criticism flying around.

"To be honest, we don't get much of a sense of what's happening, or what's being said at home, whether it's negative or positive and that's probably for the best.

"I've been at tournaments where we've played well and the country was buzzing back home, but you had no sense of it.

"It's the same when the reaction is negative. I'll get texts and hear things, but you have to take the rough with the smooth and get on with your job."

Spot on Carra. And he was one of the best England players vs Algeria. Rooney did nothing but left the pitch complaining about the fans, like if it was their fault...

I'm fairly sure that Carra wrote something entirely different in his autobiography.

Well, whatever the case was, what does the England team expect from their fans? Applause?

He's not gonna come out and say Rooney was right, was he.

I'll admit, I was made up when Rooney said that. I've been saying the same thing myself for a long time, that a large majority of England fans are fickle as anything.

The difference now however is that these fans have spent thousands travelling to South Africa to watch them, and I can complete understand that they're going to be frustrated.

But, they're probably also these 'pride in your country' enthusiasts who sneer at people who haven't got St Georges flags hanging off their cars. Booing your own country at the World Cup hardly gives off an image of pride does it? More faces than Big Ben some fans.

Surely, it is one of the basic rights of the fan to cheer when he is happy and boo when he is not.

how else does Mr Rooney think we are going to let him know he played like an old mole.

by email?   he should think himself lucky he is not from a country where the response is to burn down the player's home.

oh wait.....  someone call the fire brigade.......
