So, I just heard the following on dutch tv. Apparently it's not the FIFA holding back on technology and innovation, it's the other members of IFAB that are conservative on this issue.

      From wikipedia:
      Quote
IFAB is made up of representatives from each of the United Kingdom's pioneering football associations — England's Football Association (The FA), the Scottish Football Association (SFA), the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and Northern Ireland's Irish Football Association (IFA) — and Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international governing body for football. Each UK association has one vote and FIFA has four. IFAB deliberations must be approved by at least six votes. Thus, FIFA's approval is necessary for any IFAB decision, but FIFA alone cannot change the Laws of the Game; they need to be agreed by at least two of the UK members.

If that's true then the FA might just have bitten themselfs in their own ass.

It would be f**king hilarious if Capello loses his job.

England won't find anyone better for the job in my honest opinion. He deserves Euro 2012 at least.

i agree. i also feel sorry for him.

i am certain he knows that the england squad as is is only really capable of playing typical english blood-and-guts style football which, as usual, would be found wanting against the top few world teams, as has been proven for decades.

so he tried to get them playing a more "world" style and it worked up to a point in qualifying.

but now, under severe pressure, the players can't do it and capello is basically fu**ed. if he stays with his preferred style the players can't handle it, if he lets them revert to type they lose anyway.

bottom line....capello is a top guy, our players are just not good enough.

oh, and gerrard...probably the best of a poor bunch but he looks well past his best. unless he really comes back strong early doors next season he should be shipped out asap...even before then if a big offer comes in.

I've watched a lot of matches, and just wondered if anybody could tell me who else in this tournament has played a flat 4-4-fucking2? (Mike Bassett :P)

This formation is old English way of playing and it is so mechanical, it is untrue.

Gerrard shouldn't be on the left and if he is on the elft should be told to F***ing stay there. He came inside and with that he made the pitch so narrow.

He shouldn't be wide left though, England need a quality left footed winger for next tournament, perhaps Adam Johnson? Lampard needs kicking out and Gerrard taking his position.

Has Stevie 1 world cup left him in? Definitely a Euro 2012 and Lampard might make it sadly.

Today though, Upson and Terry were abysmal, but at 2-2 which it should have been, England wouldn't have commited suicide which they did for Germanys 3rd and 4th goal, and the game might have gone either way. As it was, we were picked apart at will.

To be fair, as an irishman looking in, england didn't have one good game, one good half even. They played with 10 men the whole tournament, Rooney clearly was a passenger for the duration. Should've been dropped IMHO

I said it at the Algeria game, why not give the Spurs boys a run out

      Defoe + Crouch.

Proven goal scorers and play Rooney on the wing like they did at Manure and stick Gerro behind Defoe and Crouch.

      A lot of people agreed.

What a bloody good game that was got to say. End to end stuff, England would have had a chanc. e if they had defenders on the pitch. The goal that never was finally makes up for 66  Germany deserved it, can't wait to see what they do against Argentina

Bah GJ was sh*t yesterday ,well the entire defence was sh*t,even james was ,he was at fault for the 3rd goal, why the F**k was he anticipating the shot to go to the far post?

I dont know but i think the English wanted to play fair and not tackle the germans,so much for the physical nature of the EPL and all.

3 goals could have been stopped had some one decided to pull the shirt or bring down their man,if not all 4 goals.

Nobody guessed correctly on the headlines.

      We had

      Fritz all over

      and

      Rout of Africa

The Daily Mail was saying something about the war - surprisingly.

      what went wrong for england?

      1. 18:23  Lampard strikes a free kick into the German wall from 30 yards out....clearly thomas mueller moves his arm towards the ball to block it.......nothing given by the official ?

      2. 19:40  klose scored from a goal kick ........poor defending?   but was it?  Have a closer look and you will see klose fouls upson when they are level going for the ball and he puts his arm across the face of upson to illegally prevent a contest.
      nothing given by the official?

3.30:35  brilliant move by the germans to split england wide open but a great save by james to deny them

4.30:51 defoe is incorrectly ruled offside when he heads the ball onto the crossbar.....perhaps another indication that the officials are not going to be kind to us today

      5. 31:53  a well constructed goal from the germans.....

      6. 34:18  lampard very close but denied by a great save from the keeper as the ball is whipped in from the right to the 6 yard box.

      7. 36:50  gerrard serves it up on a plate for upson to head a goal  2-1 the fightback begins

      8. 37:42  lampard lobs it superbly over the keepers head from the edge of the box, 2-2....... but wait... the biggest case of blindness in world cup history as everyone in the stadium sees it was a metre over the line except for the officials....

      half time

      9. 51:31  lampard hits a free kick from 35 yards onto the crossbar...the goalkeeper well beaten....so unlucky.....

      10. 66:00 lampard hits a free kick from 30 yards into the german wall....clear handball once again as the defender moves his arm towards the ball.....nothing given by the official.....nothing new.....

      11. 66:17  german breakaway as gareth barry loses it on the rebound from the freekick.   goal to germany  game set and match   3-1

      12. 69:31  England ripped apart again as gareth barry makes a poor challenge and is left looking embarrasingly slow.... oh wait..... he is embarrassingly slow. 4-1

Its a shame because it was all England early in the second half and numerous chances were not taken, as well as that great strike into the crossbar.  If the officials had done their job we would not have had need to over commit players forward.......which is exactly what killed us in the end.

Yeah i saw that, too. I think it needed to be a penalty. England didn't play well, but if Lamp scored for 2-2, we would had a great chance to win that match, or not lose by 3 goals difference... So, let's hope for Euro 2012 now...
