Ryan Babel and Albert Riera could be in line for moves to Arsenal and Juventus respectively.

Liverpool's Premier League rivals are understood to be considering tabling a bid for Babel after their previous plans were halted when Rafael Benitez offered the 23-year-old a lifeline following his infamous outburst on Twitter.

Birmingham City saw a series of offers rejected in January after they failed to meet the club's vaulation for the Holland international, believed to stand at £10-12million.

Alex McLeish is preparing a fresh bid this summer but there is a strong mutual respect between Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger and Babel, who has continued to hint at his admiration for the club.

"Arsenal use the same sort of system as Ajax did when they won the Champions League in 1996," he said in an interview last year.

"They have a very young team and perhaps they still need a couple of players to get to where they need to be.

"Arsene Wenger is a very smart manager and he’ll know exactly who he needs to sign to get his side to that next level.

"They are nearly there and I’m sure it won’t be long before they are competing as the best team in the world."

The presence of international team mate Robin van Persie at the Emirates Stadium would also be a key factor in tempting Babel to North London with his Anfield future in doubt following Benitez's departure to Inter Milan.

Meanwhile Juventus have earmarked temperamental Riera for a possible switch to Serie A but the move would be dependent on the sale of Tiago and Fabio Grosso to Atletico Madrid, which is expected to generate €7-8million for the Turin club.

A series of media broadsides during the final third of last season saw Riera, 27, banished from the first team fold by Benitez and failed to negotiate a deal to Spartak Moscow which destroyed his hopes of a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

Bundesliga rivals Hamburg and VfB Stuttgart are also monitoring the former Espanyol winger's situation.

I remember Babel used to be linked to Arsenal all the time, before we got him. Wenger seem to be an admirer. I've completely lost my faith on him, I wouldn't mind selling.

And Riera do not deserve a club of Juventus' size. But if they want to pay for him, oh well.

On current form he wouldn't yet if anyone can transform him it would be Wenger. His career could have mercurial rise if he goes to Arsenal. As for Riera at all cost he needs to go!

And, I have to agree with RedBlood. You just know that if he stays in the Premier League, he's gonna burn us.

I think thwe new manager might see potential in Babel an keep him...Dont think Rafa ever really believed in Babel and hes the type of player who needs an arm around the shoulder.. Some players perform better under different managers and Babel DEFINITELY has the potential I think... Riera can fu*k off!!!!

Babel can just go as far as i am concerned he has had so many chances it is untrue.
Riera will carry no respecet in the dressing room, and he is crap anyway.
Would like to see Jovanovich's signing confirmed if the w**kers running the club can pull their finger out.
Otherwise if Hodgson takes charge, then he might just be able to persuade his commander in chief Danny Murphy to come back. Now that would be the first thing i've had to smile about for a long time.

id like to see babel get a chance under a new manager personally, i know hes had chance after chance but after christmas he improved massively and i think if wenger really wants babel thats good enough endorsement for me that there is still potential in the lad so id like to see him get another year under a new manager to see how he reacts.

Exactly mate how I feel. With Babel, if we were to cash in on him, I'd hope we'd off load him to some other country. You just know if he goes to a Premier League club, the day will come where he will come back to haunt us.

Hodgson would surely have to sell one of the two as he wants to bring in new players and to do that he would have to generate funds by selling players.Anyways no one wants to see Riera here anymore so it's better he gets sold off soon.

Get shut of them both ! i'd quite fancy our chances if we played against them in the prem , when Babel gets the ball we would get possession 'cos he gives it away ,Riera would probably pass it back to us so its a win win for me !

I'm sorry to sound like a tool but his proper position is not a striker.  He is an attacking winger/inside forward.  We only have three out and out strikers in the first team and reserves combined: Torres, N'Gog and Eccleston.

Could Riera not play the Gosling role?
