      Why was Dalglish snubbed?
      Jul 01, 2010 04:13:33 pm
Just seen the news conference re  Roy Hodgsons appointment, it was interesting that when asked about Dalglish being interested in taking on the managerial role himself Martin Broughton said they told Dalglish he would not be considered for the job ,

Two things strike me over this decision , was he under orders to appoint someone who has not got the fans firmly on their side and who may not attract the best players , and not appoint someone who will be able to persuade Gerrard / Torres / Mascherano to remain at the club , seems to me this may be a great appointment for Chelsea given their desire to sign Torres .

      Dalglish wanted the job.

Martin Broughton told him he wasn't a candidate.

The only reason I can think is because Dalglish wouldn't have been a Yes man, and if they struggled to sack Benitez they would have found it near impossible to do it with Dalglish.

Dalglish has a far superior CV next to Hodgson's.

You only have to compare their spells at Blackburn where they were both handed plenty of money to spend.

I don't agree with this whole "yes man" perspective. The only thing that i could see being used against Kenny is that he has been out of the day-to-day running of the club for so long now.

Who cares? Really, Roy is the man now, and specualting why others didn't get the job is disrespectful to him.

I'd imagine it's because Kenneth is always going to be on the fans side. Woy has no allegiances.

The board knew too well that kenny would not stand by and watch our club be ripped to shreds.

Kenny is no yes man so he never fitted the agenda which the board have and that is asset stripping our club and leave potential new owners whith squat of a squad.

Would they dare sack King Kenny? In a way I am mad, and in a way I am not, because I would loathe the day the owners would sack the King.

They're going to say "it's because he's been out of the management game so long and he already holds a very important position in the club, we care about the youth - who better to look after them than a Liverpool legend etc etc".

Reality of the matter is: if things are being done incorrectly, Kenny loves the club so much that he'd stand up and hold whoever accountable.  He could persuade Torres and Gerrard to stay without questions.  The fans would hold him in even higher regard than Rafa.  He wouldn't allow any boardroom-level destruction to take place while he's the gaffer.

They wanted a man who would not challenge for the title.  They are fu**ed if we are top in January when the transfer window opoens and Big Woy demands new players.

Yes they laughed off Sven etc,But one of our all time greats who has as good if not better track record than Hodgson, and he was also supposed to have 50% say in our next manager.

It is a valid question someone told me he was overlooked because off his age and then i pointed out he's 2 years younger than Woy. ???

I think Kenny will be a little embarrassed as the way they said he wasn't even a candidate. They could of said "We considered Kenny but felt Roy was the better option"

I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny left now. Hope I'm wrong.

This yes man theory does my head in. Hes not a rookie. He was favourite to get the England job if Capello gets the chop. Pretty sure the England job pays more then Liverpool so it wouldnt be a money thing. Why at his age would he bother being a yes man when he had a comfy job in London and the possibility of a comfier job job with massive pay with England?

as has been said discussing why other candidates weren't selected is very disrespectful to roy who I think will do a great job and looking forward to seeing who he brings in and can't wait till next season. as for king kenny i think he will still be more than happy to be in the ambassador role at the moment.

Well said. Last time I looked, Roy Hodgson was never a yes man.

I think the reality is what a lot of fans worried that it cld all go wrong for kenny. My heart wanted him too, but the head said different.

Kenny has a job at the club, and they are happy with him, and he will probably work closer with Roy now as well.

      So he is still there.

He's not a yes man. He's just not very fussy. He'll make do with what resources he's got.He wont stand up to them IMO.Thats not a criticism its just my opinion he was an easy person to appoint.

Whereas if Dalglish apointed he would stand up to them,do things the Liverpool way and cause much more problems for the yanks so thats why he wasn't given a look in.

This topic should be discussed and people who find it disrespectful seem to be the same people that were just as disrespectful to Rafa not so long ago.I will back Roy 100% as i have always done with our previous managers, but to call me disrespectful for wanting to know why he was laughed off ???
