      Germany 0-1 Spain
      Jul 06, 2010 07:46:09 am
The second semi-final of the tournament brings arguably two of the best footballing nations together - Spain and Germany, a repeat of the Final in Vienna in 2008.

Germany, who finished top of Group D after beating Australia (4-0) and Ghana (1-0), only losing to Serbia (0-1), have impressed many with their young team. Their games in the knock-out stages have been very amazing, beating England (4-1) and Argentina (4-0). With the absence of Michael Ballack, youngsters, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller along with the experience of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Phillip Lahm, Miroslave Klose and Per Mertesacker have taken the World Cup by storm. Top scorers in the tournament, they take on a difficult Spain side with the absence of 20 year old Thomas Muller, who is suspended. Miroslav Klose, one goal short of equalling Ronaldo (Brazil) 's world cup scoring record, would like to add to his tally of 4 goals.

Spain, European Champions, have yet to his top gear and have David Villa's 5 goals to thank for their place in the last four. Finishing top of Group H after a shock loss to Switzerland (0-1), they overcame Honduras (2-0) and Chile (2-1). On route to the semi-finals, they beat Portugal and Paraguay, both 1-0. Fernando Torres is yet to score his first goal of the tournament after recently returning from a knee surgery which has kept him out of Liverpool's last few games.

So, who will be in the final to take on either Uruguay or Netherlands? or who will Paul the Octopus select? Will Germany win a 4th title or will Spain add the World Cup to their Euro 2008 trophy? Will David Villa finish as top scorer, with his goal tally closely followed by Miroslav Klose?

IMO, Germany are the favourites to win this game after impressing the whole of South Africa with their dazzlling football but obviously I want Spain to go through. Spain should not change their style and keep to their normal passing game which have made them one of the fear footballing nations in the world.

      nice opening :D

if spain will play like in all other games before, they will lose. Spain is nothing special in this tournament. I hope that torres will be in the start formation so we have nothing to be afraid of.

i hope that kroos or marin will take müllers place. both are very young and talented. but somehow i think trochowski will take it.

      3-1 win for germany

so they will meet Holland in the finals.

there is a funny commercial in germany ...

If they are too strong ....(sind sie zu stark...)

.... then you are too.....(bist du zu...)

There were reports last night stating that Paul the German Octopus picked Spain to beat Germany but the picture turned out to be a photoshopped photo of the Germany vs Serbia match.

Now, this is the new image but I'm still not sure if it's true.

Anyway, I think Germany will win this one, I actually hope they will, a Holland - Germany final would be epic.

Germany have been excellent to watch so far however I think Spain will control the midfield and therefore the match.

I think 2-0 or 3-1 to Spain as Germany do carry a threat.

Germany have been at their best in the tournament. They have a habit of scoring alot of goals. Even though they won't have Thomas Muller for this game, a line-up with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski leading the attack will always be dangerous.

Spain, they still do their passing and movement game but aren't as threatening as in Euro 2008, which is worrying for me. They've only scored 6 goals so far, 5 by David Villa as opposed to Germany who have scored 13 goals. Even if not at best, they definitely have grinded out the result they need to reach this stage. I hope they don't get overconfident with Paul the Octopus' prediction though.

It would probably be a tighter encounter than it was back in 2008, IMO, with Germany threatening the Spanish defence.

The last game Spain had where they looked convincingly threatening was their game against the Poland.

In the tournament itself, they've created few clear-cut chances, but somehow usually manage to win the game. They have that fighting spirit, and I can't see them losing this one.

      Viva la Furia Roja.

Could look at this game either way from a selfish point of view really, be good for the likes of Nando to reach the final, but then again it'd be good to have him back at Liverpool to sort out his future.

I've always liked Spain but it'd be difficult to argue that Germany don't deserve to make the final, they've basically been the best team in the competition thus far.

Torres dropped in favour of Pedro.

A bold, and in my opinion, good choice by Del Bosque.
