Steven Defour (Standard Liege)

There is reports in Belgium that Liverpool are in talks for this lad for £8 million, says Hodgson wants to make him his first signing.

I think he is a good player and if selling Lucas means we get this lad I think it will be a good bit of business for the club.

I've only heard good things about this lad.

22 years of age I believe and supposedly a top prospect/already a top player.

I'm pretty sure he's a central midfielder that is capable of playing most positions of that type.

I think he is a good player the only problem with him is he only played I think 12 games last season due to injury problems.

Selling Lucas to fund Steven Defour will do for me.
The sort of player we should go in for.

I don't like this idea because I think if we buy a central midfielder we will see Aquilani sold or play again with 4-2-3-1 next season.

Why would it mean Aquilani is sold, there is currently speculation around Masch and Lucas so we will need a replacement and this lad fits the bill he is only 22, has massive potential and would be an excellant signing for £8 million.

That is a very good point.  8 Million just doesn't sound accurate for such a talented young player.  I would love to believe this, even if it is meant to be a replacement for Masch.  I've said before that if we could get Cambiasso + 15-20 mil for Masch, that would be good business, and Defour would be a perfect understudy in this setup.

Played against us when we played Standard Liege back in the qualifying round a couple of seasons back, good player and yes I would get shut of Lucas for him.

This is the type of player we should linked with. He's a brilliant player, although I don't think this postion should be a priority.
