We have a next game on Wednsday. I suppose, there will be no replay. We can think there was no match with Al-Hilal.

      Roy: Referee had no choice

Roy Hodgson admitted to feeling a sense of disappointment that his first game as Liverpool manager against Al-Hilal was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch in Austria.

The referee conducted several pitch inspections in Austria before deeming the match unplayable.

It means our new boss will have to wait until Wednesday for his first Liverpool game when Swiss side Grasshoppers provide the opposition.

"The referee had no choice," Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Everyone tried very hard to get the game on but it wasn't possible. We wanted to play, Al -Hilal wanted to play, but to play a football match you need the ball to be rolling properly around the pitch.

"It wasn't doing that and so it was impossible. We tried everything but you can't fight the weather and even if we had started the game it would have been played at the limit, and I'm not sure we would have finished it."

Hodgson also revealed training plans have had to change because of the postponed match.

"Obviously this affects our preparations," he added.

"We were going to play today and have a warm down day tomorrow but now Sunday will be a training day instead.

"Most of all I'm disappointed for the supporters who came to watch Liverpool play but there was nothing we could do."

Not a good omen for Roy's Liverpool career this. First game, wash out.

Ah well, look forward to the next game.

Something isn't right. Why was Gillett in Austria for a friendly game? Thats weird, i mean he doesn't travel to any UK games anymore (not even away ones) so why would he go to Austria to see an reserve squad play?

It is, but to answer the original question, it is odd, but I don't think it has anything to do with the club being sold because it has nothing to do with the travelling team. I might get chastised for this but Gillett isn't as bad as Hicks, it's just Hicks is so bad that it rubs off on Gillett, they are both stupid c*nts who deserve to be tossed in a burning fire, but I would throw Hicks in first.

      Amoo   Lucas    Aquilani  Riera

             Dalla Valle
                        Ngog

Subs: Hansen, Spearing, Irwin, Shelvey, Ince, Eccleston, Palsson.

      F*cking waterlogged pitch....
Came home to a recording of lads out with brushes fighting the inevitable.
Well thats a couple more days training for Kyrgiakos and Jovanovic...
Not even on the bench. Suppose they need some rest but would like them to at least have a run out.

What an awefull start. And we are a bit behind everyone else. Most teams have already played two or three games and we start earlier than most, thanks to the third round qualifying europa cup. Worrying times me thinks.

I think Cavalieri is sold to someone or a deal is in the way because he isn't in the squad & isn't as a reserve.
Think Cavalieri just came to the camp, like Jovanovic and Soto, so no game time.
No he wasn't at the world cup. Insua & Cavalieri were both training from the beginning of the pre-season 7 neither of them were in the line-up. Insua is a confirmed transfer.
