Probably as good a back up as we can get. Hopefully Roy see's him the same way and not first XI material.

My thoughts exactly.  Let's give Roy the benefit of the doubt and hope that he is bringing in Young to be backup for the RB and LB positions.  Hopefully he has someone else in mind to be 1st choice LB......and hopefully he also gets rid of Degen

Suprised we are not linked with kevin philips!

F***ing piss take and we got fans on here who think woy is gonna deliver us the title.

You should rememeber a team with all the stars doesn't win the league. You have to have those stars and the water carriers. This is why Man United have been so successful we haven't grasped that idea yet.

Not sure why everyones so down bout this one, hes just what were looking for, hes a steady eddy, ok, so not spectator, but better than recent fall backs insua and Dossena surely and he offers cover across the back in both full back positions.

He would be decent backup for both fullbacks but I would only want him on a free, hate the idea of actually paying for him.. wasn't it the same money we paid for Arbeloa? There are certainly better and younger options out there.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt Insua considered a home grown player? Why selling him to buy a 10 years older player then? Not even the English factor makes sense.

He costs 2.5m, Insua left for 2m more. That explains it, i'm sure ::)

      And i hope he doesn't!

Although it seems as though we won't take no for an answer with Figueroa and Young almost certain to sign.

Figueroa and Insua would be the best combination there wouldn't it? Though I think it'll either be Insua and Luke young, or if Insua goes, Figueroa and Young.

Not just, he replaced Bouma last season as a left back.

Definitely Figueroa and Insua. I don't think people will realise what we lost until he's really gone. Too many people slagged him off.

Hopefully Young rejects us. For some reason.

It'd have to be under serious circumstance why he wouldn't sign for us like he's allergic to the grass at anfield :P

This is probably true because Martin O'Neil has been quoted on Villa official website as saying that they have accepted a bid for Luke Young from an unamed club and that it is down to the player whether or not he accepts.

      (Scroll down towards the end.)

      I hope it ain't us...prefer Figueroa and/or Salcido

I only don't quite like the idea of signing a 31-year old.

      Ouch.

I woke up to this news about 10 minutes ago and my immediate thoughts are - what the F**k? and why?

He "surplus to requirements" at Villa (25 man squad rule) - yet they're "holding out" for more money. He's 31. He's injury prone. He's really a right back - not a position that's in urgent need of attention.

The glimmer of hope, the straw i'm clutching at (if you like) is that this must surely mean: we are confident of securing (or have already secured) the services of top, injury free, youthful, players who are naturals in the positions we need filled.

This is going to be one, long, long, interesting summer.  ;D

Due to wage demands, Fiorentina can't afford his wages at the moment.

I would like at least someone to have as a backup as we can't play Insua all season. It was too hard on him last season, Luke Young's last game in the premier league was against Chelsea at the bridge and they lost 7-1.

He had 20 appearances last season and was an unused sub 20 time. He got 4 bookings last season and scored 0 goals.
