Aquilani is better in the centre surely tonight and the pre season game he played showed this. He is absolutely wasted in the hole. That is not his position he never played there in Italy.

This! As soon as Aquilani dropped deeper such as a centre mid he started to dictate the tempo and was passing all around the opposition. He must be played in midfield from now on. Cole, Gerrard, Pacheco in the hole but not Aquilani he just doesn't work well when he's backwards to the opposition.

Completely agree Tim, I was blue in the face from saying this last season, and people kept saying no he is better in the hole because he played well against Spurs there.

The lad is a centre midfielder that is where he played his whole career, in midfield ditating the play. He doesn't have the pace ability to beat anyone or the strength to play in the hole.

Would have preferred to have seen Pacheco in there tonight if he was available with Aquilani in the centre with Lucas.

Maybe Aquilani could be the new Alonso for us!

Possibly, he won't be doing 50 yards passes lots of times like alonso though he will be making short decisive and cutting passes opening up the defence. Him and Maxi play so well together because they're used to one two's and doing that is very effective for opening up defences. I do suspect from time to time he will spread the play but mainly he will be trying to play short, cutting passes where he can move forward and continue the attack. He's more mobile then Xabi Alonso.

Is the return leg on the magical channel that no-one's ever heard of?

      'The Narnia Channel' was it?

I agree, but I still think Aquilani's role should be free. Whomever he is paired with in the middle, be it Lucas or Masch. They handle all the defensive work, leave Aquilani free to roam and dictate play. Gerrard right infront of him, no one better to link up with well before Torres. Cole on the left and Maxi on the right.

Think we need to play more free flowing football with the team we have. Aquilani, Gerrard and Cole. All splendid passers, and can dictate the game.

Well in today, lads. Kelly, along with our defense was quality which is a great sign. Think Agger could play LB when needed, and Kelly is certainly our cover at RB. Doesn't look as bad as we thought.

Well done to the guys. A very solid performance overall and it's brilliant to see Hodgson giving the young home grown talent a chance - they did well and he did well too!

Thought Martin Kelly had a good game, great result and now we can give a few more of the kids like Wilson, Shelvey and Ince a go in the 2nd leg. You'd never see Rafa have the faith in the youngsters Roy has shown

The game was played at a snail's pace but we came out on top which is always good to do away from home, especially the fact we played with a weaken squad and had little to worry about.

I was impressed with Amoo explosive pace and wing play though he needs to work on his end product and also thought Kelly was very effective defending when called upon and pushing up with the attack. Rest of the team for the most part played pretty solid, did what was needed to see the match through though Spearing really was disappointing, he looked out of his element which is worry to see already when we are playing poor teams.

Alexander was born in the city of Pella in Macedonia which is in Northern Greece, so he is a Greek from the Greek region of Macedonia. The place which Rabotnicki fans call "Macedonia" is not really Macedonia, it used to be called "Vardar Region" before Yugoslavia split up, they just stole the name "Macedonia" when they gained independence in 1992 to associate themselves with some glorious history. Alexander spoke Greek. The Rabotnicki fans speak Bulgarian i.e. nothing to do with ancient Greece (which they like to associate themselves with...)

Well, history is quite an issue in Macedonia. They seem to teach history that no one else does. So it depends on who you ask.

Most people (non Macedonians) will agree with this.
