      Why is it second rate?

Wasn't second rate when we won it in 2001. Getting a little bit sick of this crap at times.

It is the second competition for European Clubs behind the Champions League, hence why it is second rate. Still a good competition to win but doesn't change that fact it is no Champions League.

I can't quite remember when this change came in.  I remember when all european competitions where given respect.  It's a little depressing to be honest, but it's probably down to money.

It happened around the time the European Cup changed to the Champions League the money started flowing into the coffers and the successful clubs of the day (Manure for one ) wanted a clear distinction between the top Competition and the lesser two so started the labelling of the other two as 2nd rate !

Liverpool have never and will never class the Europa League or Cup Winners Cup (now defunct !) as 2nd class !, and neither should the fans, it really is a sign of disrespect in my opinion we're in the Europa League this season as we were simply not good enough for the Champions League !

Lets remember one thing the current layout allows less worthy teams of competing for Europes top prize !

Manures 2nd and our 5th titles would'nt be so had we not qualified through our league position rather than winning the title.

We'd still have 4 title to there 2 though !

The main reason I believe the Europa League/UEFA Cup lost a bit of it's luster was when the Champions League came into place, not because of the money but they expanded the amount of teams which can compete which took them away from the UEFA Cup. I remember a interview with Emlyn Hughes who said back in the 70's when we won a couple of times said it was harder to win than the European Cup because there were 2 or 3 very good teams from nations rather than having champions from weaker nations.

You look if it was still under the same format based on last year result, some clubs (we wouldn't make it sad enough) would make it would be.

      - Manure, Arsenal, Spurs, Citeh
      - Real Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla
      - Roma, AC Milan, Sampdoria, Palermo
      - Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen, Schakle 04
      - Lyon, Auxerre, Lille
      - Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Braga
      - Celtic, Zenit, Spartak Moscow, Ajax, PSV, Dynamo Kyiv

Look at the quality of those clubs playing in this competition it would be taken more serious and more prestigious like it was years ago. Just that there is so many clubs in the Champions League it just waters down the competition.

Braga are not a very attacking team. First half hour they've had zero shots on goal i believe but had two corners. Sevilla are winning this tie at the moment although it is 0-0.

Uefa should decrease CL's numbers of teams from each country.4 from a country is crazy. It should be a cup winner and leage winner from every country, that's all or should be all. Then we could discuss harder about EuroLeague or whatever it's.

Btw just an information about Trabzonspor-> Trabzonspor is the only team which could be champion except Istanbul teams(G.Saray,F.Bahce,Besiktas). Trabzon is a very little town in Turkey.Geographical position is also where any goverment doesnt care so much(northerneast). There's no industry that could make young ppl stay there and survive their life.Despite these conditions,Trabzon is like Brasil of Turkey as how Brazil popular in all around the world related football.Tugay Kerimoglu,Emre Belozoglu and Nihat Kahveci are originally from Trabzon borned or their parrents.Last 3 years and this year they've gathered serious players to the team.Total value of the team is about to reach 70-80 million Euro;which means top 30 teams in the Europe. Therefore any result will not be met as a surprise in Turkey and should not be for UK as well. Also Liverpool's 5,6-0 win is a posibility which will not be met as a surprise in Turkey. My point of view is that Liverpool will have one of tough match for this year if there'll be no extraordinary things (red cards, lucky own goals, referee etc..) . Last thing,Trabzonspor will be one of biggest team in Europe in near future -not later than 10 years- .Because They have 10 million fans,50 million Euro gain per year .Close to Liverpool ,right? ;)

      1-1 in Vienna

It looked like a cross went in and a slight touch directed it towards goal

Either way makes the tie more interesting
