I've started reading books online. I downloaded Arthur Conan Doyle's complete Sherlock Holmes mysteries and they are as I expected. They also indicate how good the Jeremy Brett TV series was at putting them on screen.

You may find the Project Gutenberg of interest in this regard.

My favourite book is without question, Dune. Since Frank Herbert's death, the stories have been taken-up by his son Kevin and Sci-Fi author Kevin J Anderson. They have written prequels about the Major Houses in the universe (Atreides, Harkonnen and the Emperor's House Corrino), as well as the major conflict that arose in the past (the Butlerian Jihad) that explains how the empire came to be as well as the feud between the Harkonnens and the Atreides.

I have the first three about the Houses in .pdf, if anyone is interested.

As well as catching up with these, last year saw Hunters of Dune, which sets up the final book, Sandworms of Dune, which came out last month. That is the next book...

I've also recently enjoyed another Frank Herbert novel written before Dune. The Dragon in the Sea, also known as Under Pressure. It's about a post-nuclear war submarine mission. It's a really good thriller, partially because it is psychological.

Messiah - here we go gathering cups in may is an excellent read - the first three chapters Rome, Wembley and Paris are boss - reading what older fans got up to just to get tickets for the game, and also some of the mad things Liverpool fans do on euro trips.

If your looking for a really funny book, with a football theme I can highly recommend The Van by Roddy Doyle,(the guy who wrote The Commitments). Its about two southern Irish fellas who buy an old butty van, and endeavor to do it up prior to the 1990 World Cup. Whereupon they envisage they will make a killing selling food to masses that are watching the Republic Of Ireland, reach the quarter finals of the world cup. If it doesn't have you pissing your pants with laughter, I will eat the proverbial hat

There is the complete set of this called The Barrytown Trilogy.......so funny

I have been reading recently English-Russian and Russian-English dictionaries. They’re very interesting books? You can learn many new things and enlarge your knowledge. So I advise you to read them in yr free time!

Seriously my second favorite book is by Dougie Brimson “Eurotrashed. The Rise and Rise of Europe’s football hooligans”. I knew much about the truth of tragedy because before everything I had read blamed only Liverpool fans as the main guilty and cruel people. I hope it will never be repeated. For many people a fan = a hooligan. That negative attitude to football fans is everywhere. What to do to change that negative image of fans (drunk and aggressive people)?
I like reading very much. So I ruined my eyesight. I have read a lot of books about football, players, about History. I loved “The shaping of England” by Isaac Asimov. “The Xenophobe’s Guide to the English” Antony Miall & David Milsted. “Mind power in the 21st century” by John Kehoe. Etc…
It takes a lot of time to remember about all good books I have read in my life!

I've just started The World According to Garp by John Irving.  Got through the first two chapters queuing for the Cardiff tickets at Anfield.  I never noticed the cold or the rain so it's definitely got my attention.

Before this I read The Long Firm & He Kills Coppers by Jake Arnott.  I love his style of writing with three different characters telling their tales and how they interreact without actually meeting.

Does this sound a bit pretentious? ???

I love my autobiographies - especially past LFC players.

I have just finished Alan Kennedy's book.
      Kennedy's Way - Inside Bob Paisley's Liverpool.

I must admit, it's different to how other books are written, but it gives a great in depth read into his rise in football.
Talks a lot about Sir Bob and the 'liverpool secret' in the 80's.

Would reccomend, but please be aware - it's not an autobiography as such.

Next to be read, are :-
The Saint - Ian St John
Oh Joey, Joey - Joey Jones
Farewell But Not Goodbye - Bobby Robson (bless him, best wishes to you Bobby)

Just finished 'Into The Wild' which will shortly be coming out in the UK as a film directed by Sean Penn. A fantastic film and book based on a true story of a a guy in his early twenties from a well to do family who gave everything up to try and find himself in the Alaskan wilderness. The book is a quick easy read and is a cheap book to purchase....REALLY reccommend it to any young guys out there (late teen and early twenties) and read it before the film comes out. It will change you or at least give reason behind many of your actions.....5 stars.
