I may be wrong, but I can't recall a player ever having to go through so much to play for our club. We should definately pull out all the stops on this one, the skill he has combined with his unwavering desire to play for us could be the perfect combination.

Well, according to Rafa in the Echo today, the agreement WAS in place to let him join any club he wished and he wants to know what grounds they had for stopping the move. One thing's for sure, I don't think we've heard the last of this one.

Heinze will reinforce the left band of Madrid According to informs the daily Mark in its edition into Wednesday, the Argentinean Gabriel Iv谩n Heinze is on the verge of saturating in Real Madrid to reinforce lateral the left one. The madridista organization has arrived at a principle in agreement with the Manchester United to take control of the services of the Argentine defense. Ramon Calder贸n would have to pay around the twelve million euros so that the zaguero arrived at the capital of Spain and seems arranged to it. The left zone of the madridista defense is one of the weakest zones of the white set and Schuster therefore let it know to Calder贸n and Mijatovic in the emergency meeting that had Monday. The reaction has been sudden. Ferguson does not count on Heinze and the Argentinean has been fighting to even leave Old Trafford in the direction of Liverpool all the summer, going to the courts. Nevertheless, the judges have not given the reason him to the Argentinean and the defense sees the option of Real Madrid like a perfect exit to its situation. Also the Olympique de Lyon has been interested in the last hours by Heinze, but Real Madrid has been faster and it has gone ahead to the French.

Heinze to reinforce Madrid's left hand side

Accoriding to informants in Wednesdays Marca, Gabriel Heinze is set to switch to Real Madrid to play at LB. The Madrid establishment have set up a principle agreement with Manchester United to secure the services of the Argentine defender. Ram贸n Calder贸n would have to part with 12 million Euros to bring the player to the capital of Spain, and seems willing to do so. The left hand side of Madrid's defence is the area with the most weaknesses, which have been brought to light to Calder贸n and Mijatovic in an emergency meeting on Monday.

Ferguson disagreed with Heinze, who has been fighting to join Liverpool all summer, including attending tribunals. However the courts have not found reason in Heinze's argument and now the defense see's the Madrid option as the likely solution. Also, Olympique Lyon have also expressed an interest in past few hours but Madrid have acted quicker and the French club have been notified.

      Good skills County Rd Kopite.

It's a shame the outcome of Heinze's situation. From his personal point of view it must be so frustrating that he's been forced out of a move that he would love. But I'm probably more concerned of whether we are willing to hang on for his services rather than to have an alternative for that position, that Rafa obviously wants to strengthen.

i agree with Rafa on one point that we do need a LB/CB to challenge for places preferably before August deadline, but Heinze-Gate is just going to run and run and (you gussed it) run! How maybe a season-long loan approach on another target Rafa must have a alternative target, the lad from JUVE sounds alright

I wouldn't read too much into the report from Marca, they're just another tabloid albeit a Spanish one. They have also reported this summer that Eto'o would join us & Torres would go to Utd, so just like the English press they actually know sod all & create stories to sell papers.

Or maybe Fergy using a couple of Spanish contacts to create a bit of fuss over there so Madrid jump on it! ;) That sneaky Whiskey Nose ;)

      Thanks Edu.

      And from Sky Sports News:

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze.

The Spanish champions have been strongly linked with the Argentine, who had been hoping to join Liverpool, in recent weeks.

Following a Premier League panel's decision to block the player's move to Anfield, Real have now stepped in with an offer.

Real have confirmed their bid has been accepted by United and Heinze will sign a four-year contract at the Bernabeu.

Heinze is expected to arrive in Madrid on Thursday to undergo a medical before being confirmed as a Real player.

True about Real Madrid mate. You have to wonder how fast it's all happened though seeing as Heinze was desperately eager to join us. I'm beginning to feel glad he didn't come to us now.

Could of done with Heinze at the back.  Arbeloa isn't magnificent in that position.  And neither is Riise.

I can't blame him for going to Madrid, he tried everything he could to come to us first, but his age you can't afford to put your career on hold for a year.

I say fair play to him for being the first person in years to stand up to Fergie, just a shame the Premier League couldn't do the same. Best of luck at Madrid.

Done and dusted on this one then.

      BBC Sport

Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze has agreed to join Real Madrid.

A statement on the Real Madrid website, confirmed by Man Utd, said the clubs had agreed a fee and Heinze will sign a four-year contract.

The Argentine had his heart set on a move to Liverpool and took his case to a Premier League tribunal after United refused to sell him to their rivals.

But after a League panel ruled against Heinze, the 29-year-old agreed to join Real for a reported 拢8m fee.

The move brings to an end Heinze's three-season stay at Old Trafford.

The defender proved a big hit with United fans when he arrived but after recovering from a serious knee injury at the start of the 2005/6 season, he found his first-team place occupied by Patrice Evra.

Liverpool tabled a bid of more than 拢6.8m in the belief United would be forced to sell after quoting that figure in a letter to Heinze's agent.

However, United refused to let the defender join their bitter rivals and though he considered an appeal against the Premier League's ruling, Heinze instead opted for a move to Spain.

Heinze will undergo a medical in Madrid before completing the move which will see him replace veteran Brazilian Roberto Carlos, who left the Bernabeu in the summer.

I bet you he has a buy out clause in his contract. ;)
