      Happy Ramadan
      Aug 10, 2010 03:45:35 pm
Ramadan, the most significant time on the Islamic calender, begins tomorrow. I'd like to say Ramadan Mubarak to everyone. xxxxx:action-smiley-065:

For those who don't know, Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, in which we go from dawn to dusk without eating.

It's a period with deep meaning. It's a time to be the best person you can possibly be. One of the main reasons behind the fasting aspect is for Muslims to feel the pain of the poor, well a bit of that pain.

I'm in Sydney, and the moon was spotted in Indonesia and Malaysia. I've just finished eating suhur right now actually.

For us, the morning prayer is 5:15am and we break our fast at 5:21pm. It's not too bad but the days will get longer as the month progresses.

      What about for you?

It's not too bad at the moment, as it's still winter and the days are much shorter. I remember a few years back having to go without no food all day in 40 degree heat. Every year the month of Ramadan is 10 days earlier than the last on the western calender, which is why a few years back it fell in the Summer for me.

How hot is it for you Shabs, as it's the English summer?

Well everybody don't know much about anybody's religion but as we're all Liverpool fans that's not a barrier to our oneness(wtf, is there any word like oneness?)!
Being a muslim and having a lot of friends among Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhas I don't see that as a problem, but only if you're a Man Utd fan ;D!
Anyway happy Ramadhan and hope that we'll pass and move, keep it simple!

Its the only act in our faith god states is for him,we give up our sustenance to help us understand and relate to the people less fortunate than us in the world, just look whats happening in horn of africa then you will grasp how fortunate we are.

Spirtually it helps to bring us closer to god, health wise its pretty good to fast as it gives your internall organs a much needed rest and it helps you to be more patient in life.

      Hope that helps.

I wish i had the self control to fast, not for religious reasons but what you mentioned Shabs about a bit of a cleanse for the body. Think when i get the chance i at least need to detox a little, always helps to reset a bit!

Anyways slightly off topic that, more power to you all. Hope you achieve whatever personal and spiritual goals you have set :)

Not too bad actually, probably because i got up really late, not having work makes it difficult as there's nothing to distract me from the hunger, feeling it now though. How about you? After the first few the rest go so quickly don't they.

Actually I'm good and not felt any pangs thus far,I'm not working either but have had plenty to do to keep me occupied like Jummah & taking mum shopping.

I guess we have to endure fast times like these for the next 10 years or more till we hit winter hours feb/march.

What time did you get up or Sehri?

Pizza Hut causes stir for axe of 'all-you-can-eat' offer

Pizza Hut has caused a stir in Pakistan because it decided to withdraw its 'all-you-can-eat' offer during Ramadan.

The company's website said in response that it was tragic that "so much food is wasted during Iftar every year. We are now working with the community to minimize food wastage".
