Having dodgy keepers, including Reina's dip, has been a problem since Achterberg joined the coaching staff.
You could say that Reina started going downhill pretty much as soon as the new coach arrived.

It's a bit too much of a coincidence for me.

It's a fair point. If the manager was in charge of a TEAM which declined at the rate our keepers have (with respect to Jones he hasn't really declined, he was always useless) then he'd be out of a job. Is this Acherberg bloke one of Brendans coaches, the fella he used at Swansea or just some random?

I do think we ask a lot of our keeper, given we are sh!te in defence and the fact we want him to be Franz Beckenbauer when he's not saving all the shots.

..and interestingly is the only coach in the club who has survived all the changes since that dark era.

There were reports of him ripping the piss out of Reina in training, always riding him and generally being a tw*t.

Obviously his methods aren't working because he is turning good keepers into bad ones.

Well, 2 out of 3 anyway.
      Not sure Jones counts.

Achterburg was let go as a player by Tranmere in 2009, that very year he became reserve goalkeeping coach at LFC under Rafa.

In 2011, Roy promoted him to head goalkeeping coach and he's been that ever since.  :-\

Jones needs at least a little run of games to prove himself. He hasnt got one for years. A bit of support wouldnt go amiss. Small signs of improvement already. We´re about to start banging them in so we may not need a Neuer for this festive period. And theres definitely a blinder in Brad against your Burnleys. Hes not "that" bad.

      Quote
Jones made his first appearance of the 2012–13 season in a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Gomel on 2 August; Liverpool won the game 1–0. His second appearance came on 20 September in a 5–2 win against Young Boys in the Europa League group stage. Jones also helped Liverpool progress in the League Cup in a 2–1 win against West Brom on 26 September.

His first Premier League start came on 20 October, against Reading, which Liverpool won 1–0. On 25 October, Jones played his third Europa League game against Anzhi Makhachkala, keeping yet another clean sheet as Liverpool won 1–0. Three days later he played in Liverpool's 2–2 draw at Goodison Park. On 31 October, Liverpool played Swansea City in the League Cup which Liverpool lost 3–1.

      Yes, he really is.

Nothing against Jones but football is a ruthless industry, and we cannot afford to be having an inadequate player in our side, especially when the margins are so small.

We really need a quality goalkeeper, we can't wait till the summer unless Mignolet finds his form.

Allen, Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren, Balotelli, Henderson, a past-it Gerrard etc.

they all regularly make the starting XI despite being decidedly inadequate and often times downright sh*te.

At least some of those have played well at some stage or another. Jones has never played well for us.

The goalkeeper position is more important than any of those other positions, and while in some circumstances you can win the title without a quality full back, or an average centre midfield, you cannot win the league without a quality goalkeeper.

Better off his line, poor reflexes and positioning however.

Need so much better, and until then I feel Migs should return.

Lucky for Brendan that he wasn't selected in the Aussie squad for the Asian Cup next month. Knowing our luck Mignolet would've injured himself in training if that happened.

That does show kinda the level that he's at though being at best 4th choice goalkeeper for what is probably the weakest Aussie team in a decade.

The fact that he's now starting for us shows the mess we're currently in at goalkeeper.

Im not saying we should wait, just merely stating a fact that Jones has proved before he can be an adequate ´keeper in ocassion. We as liverpool supporters should back him. Have a feeling some jokes soon wont look so clever.

We have one reserve goalie with non in the pipeline and that reserve goalie is Brad Jones, if you think he is outstanding or something special then you are living in a dreamworld.
He has a finely crafted hairstyle, Henderson might be jealous and no one thought the Rick Astley yuppy look would make a come back.
He's tall so sometimes he blocks the ball with his body. The end.

is this his final year of his contract if so we surly cant renew it as he's been 2nd choice for so long now and apart from a few stints as No1 and cup games he's not really been a regular. sell him on and start trusting in the youth players like ward.

In fairness to Brad Jones I think he was only ever bought to be used in an emergency, I don't think he was ever intended to be the recognised first team goalie. Also for a parent to lose a young child like Brad and his wife did would knock the stuffing out of anyone.

he's obviously a top bloke to have around the club. he has great relations with Boro still which shows his character and by all accounts he's a great servant to our club and community. he's also a pretty face which helps these days, as much as that is painful to admit. sometimes you need to keep good characters, mature people around your club, especially going through tough times and rebuilding. that's the kind of club we are anyway and I like it that way.

his contract expires end of June and we head back down under July - will he get one last contract, another trip, another season?
