      Reds agree Jones fee

Liverpool have confirmed a £2.3m fee has been agreed with Middlesbrough for the transfer of Australian international goalkeeper Brad Jones.

The 28-year-old stopper passed a medical on Monday afternoon and has agreed personal terms. He is expected to complete the paperwork on a three-year contract on Tuesday.

The Australia international spent the early part of his career as understudy to Mark Schwarzer, before battling it out with Ross Turnbull to become first-choice at the Riverside at the start of the 2008-09 season.

During his time in the North-East he picked up a League Cup winner's medal and was between the sticks for the club's famous UEFA Cup semi-final  victory over Steaua Bucharest back in 2006.

He has since won two caps for Australia and was named in their 2010 World Cup squad.

Welcome B.J., now you've managed to 'pull off' this move to be Reina's cover, I hope you don't 'suck'.  Although Reina 'knocked one off' himself, I doubt you'll get much 'frigging' game time.

Disclaimer: I may have used one too many sexual innuendos in that welcome.

I'm sure it just said on Sky Sports (with Richard Keys and Andy Gray on Monday Night Football) that we've 'just made a big signing'.

I ran upstairs to see exactly what they were talking about. Surely not this?

He is 6'3", so he is a tall signing, not sure about big.

Bouzanis is still at the club and played for the reds in Ireland. Am I the only one who is slightly confused about why the club seem to be going down the Spanish route of showing players having their medicals ?

      Welcome pal.

Would be lying if I said Im not abit scepitcal about splashing over 2 million out on a new goalkeeper when we already have 2 'decent' keepers (Unless Cavilieri is on his way out) and one of the best in the world.

But in Roy I shall trust

      Jones read to rival Reina
Liverpool new boy Brad Jones is ready for the challenge of putting pressure on the club's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper Jose Reina.

Jones has signed a three-year contract with Liverpool to move to Anfield for a £2.3million fee from Championship side Middlesbrough.
The Australia international is looking forward to linking up with the Reds and accepts he faces a tough task to play first-team football.

"They've told me they want me to do what I do and put pressure on Pepe Reina and Diego Cavalieri," the 28-year-old told the club's official website.

"That's fine, I'm happy to do that, I've got to give it a go.

"Roy Hodgson hasn't promised anything and I would never expect that from a manager. It's up to me to work hard and make his decisions for him.

"It's not going to be easy to get past Pepe. He's shown over the last couple of years how good he is.

"You don't play for the clubs he's played for and the tournaments he's played in and not be world class.

"Obviously that side of it is going to be tough, but I'll do what I can and try to put a bit of pressure on him."

      Over the moon

Jones hails from Western Australia, but has Liverpudlian heritage as his mother is from the city.

He also fulfils the added bonus of being 'homegrown' as his parents both have British passports and he joined the Middlesbrough Academy in 2001.

Jones said: "Obviously with my mum being English and my dad having a British passport, that's helped me come over in the first place - and now it helps me with the new rules because I'm homegrown.

"Mum's over the moon, as is my granddad. It's nice, I have family round here, so it's nice to be in a familiar area.

"It's 50/50 in the family between Liverpool and Everton, but I'm sticking to the red side.

"Growing up with a mum who's a Scouser, Liverpool was drilled into me and Liverpool's my team. It didn't take too long to think coming here through!"
