Well I felt Babel had enough chances to prove himself under Rafa, but this is his first proper crack at it under Roy.

Fresh start, clean slate.

I hope to see a more mature Babel, who can raise his head and play more of a team game than I've seen from him in the past.

In terms of Aquilani, I don't think Roy wants to risk injury to another central midfield player with City coming up on Monday. Mascherano could well be out of that game so we'll need Aquilani in the squad on Monday.

Perhaps the scouting reports have come back saying their backline is slow or not very athletic, potentially one footed?  Babel needs game time and a chance to prove himself one way or another and if that is indeed the case, then there's no better opportunity than tonight.

I'm assuming Aquilani isn't worth risking for tonight's game as we need him against Man City.

Well if you call being picked, subbed after 60 minutes, left out for 3 weeks, then 10 minutes as a sub, out for 2 more weeks etc being given alot of chances, then yes I agree he had a lot of chances. TBH, a chance is 7 or 8 games on the spin. Tell the player you have confidence in him. Encourage him to express himself and show what he can do. None of this happened last season. So actually, imo he did not have much of a chance in the last regime. But as you say, new manager, new start, so lets see what happens!

Looks a decent side. Would rather have had shelvey in instead of Lucas though, as well as wilson instead of Soto.

I'm pretty happy with that team to be honest. It is probably what we all expected. I am glad Roy has given Babel another chance as i feel he didn't really get a proper chance with Rafa.
Also lets hope Joe makes it on to the pitch after half time

Interesting to see this Poulson play, see how many legs he can break in 90 minutes. Good to see Roy not try rush Torres into the first team and give Gerrard a night off, this sort of player juggling is going to be very important if we are going to fight for 4th and win the Europa League.

I hope for Babel sake he does well and find a goal or two. He can use the confidence

Didn't expect to see Babel play, I was actually hoping to see him sold. Well, if he's staying, then as Adam said, hopefully he'll find the net to build on his confidence.
