Stoke apparently ready to make a bid for Lucas:
LUCAS today insisted he is ready to fight for his Liverpool future ā as Stoke prepared an audacious deadline day move for the midfielder.
The Brazilian internationalās position in Roy Hodgsonās squad has been plunged into doubt following the summer arrivals of Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles.
Hodgson could not give any cast iron guarantees when he was quizzed about Lucasā future after Sundayās 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion but, at the same time, it would need a big offer from Stoke to convince the manager to sell.
For his part, Lucas ā last seasonās Young Player of the Year ā has made it clear he is not seeking a move and has refused to be disheartened by the fact he faces a battle to nail down a regular starting role.
āWhat is the situation? I donāt know. Iām still playing,ā said Lucas. āAt the moment, I havenāt had any offers. I donāt know if the club wants to sell me. I just have to wait.
āIām going away with the national team (on Thursday) and I canāt say any more than that. We donāt have any games so we will be training for a week in Barcelona.
āIf the club want to sell me, what can I do? I just have to wait and see what will happen. But I want to be playing. I am trying to do my best here.
āIf the club have some offers for me, they will let me know. At the moment I have no idea. I need to be playing and I want to be playing but I believe that I am doing well.
āThe manager will choose who plays. I have a contract here and if I donāt get anything good for me or for the club, then I will stay.ā
